[CUCBC Coxes] Pushing off & spinning zones

Guys,

This morning, a couple of issues came to light:

Firstly, concerning pushing off times. A few novice crews this morning
pushed off early and later claimed that they thought it was okay since other
novice crews had pushed off. This is completely wrong. The time which you
can push off is determined by the lighting down times and the relevant rules
governing novice boating. If you push off early, regardless of whether
other boats pushed off in front of you, then your club will be fined. So,
check your watch before getting your rowers to push off.

Secondly, there was a "bit of a mare" at the bottom of the reach this
morning. Problems stemmed largely from boats being stagnant, so please make
sure that you:

a) spin in turn between the posts

b) Once spun, get out of the spinning areas as quickly as you can so
that traffic continues to move.

Novices: If you find yourself being blown over the wrong side of the river
while in a queue, try to remedy the situation by using your rowers to first
point you at the correct side of the river, then get over as far as you can.

Good luck to all the novices racing this weekend.

Yours,

Mark Stringer
