   3. Senior coxes' briefing - 18.50-19.20 - IN PERSON ONLY
   4. Novice coxes' briefing - 19.20-20.00 - IN PERSON ONLY

*Coxes' briefings*
*In-person attendance for the novice and senior coxes' briefing is
mandatory for all those coxing bumps* *unless a prior arrangement for truly
immovable commitments on a Sunday evening has been discussed. There will be
a sign-in sheet sometime during each briefing.

(*unless proxies arranged for senior coxes only as per rule 24:
http://www.cucbc.org/handbook/racing/bumps)

*River behaviour*
- Reminder to all crews that requesting to 'come by' is both polite and a
safety call - crews being overtaken may not be aware that you are behind
them / crews in front may have a different perspective on whether you're
clear.
- Reminder to coxes/coaches to be especially cautious and proactive with
oncoming coxless boats: there have been several reports recently of ...
let's call it impromptu mid-river greetings.
- Crews coming upstream have right of way, and river safety should be of
paramount concern even if that means pausing your outing temporarily.
- Early morning noise: no coaching upstream of the railway bridge before
07.30 includes upstream as well as downstream. Coxes are encouraged to keep
comments limited around houseboats.

*How not to get an insurance claim from / sued by / understandably shouted
at by a houseboat owner*
Reminders:
- coxes should at all times be aware to stay clear of houseboats.
- push off the fenders/ tyres/ rubber above waterline if contact is made
- apologise. Especially if any damage. If significant, give club contact
details: insurance is there for a reason.
- hopefully by now everyone on the river should know how to safely
manoeuvre away from houseboats when in close proximity but check in with
your novice coxes in particular, please. (when viable, backing away first
is better than pulling a blade in to paddle on, etc)

Here's to an exciting couple of weeks!

All the best
Cat
