Dear Captains
Keep those entries coming! We want as much time as possible to work with individual boat clubs to sort out the technology, software and other issues with running virtual QErgs, so the deadline for club sign-ups is now Monday 2nd November.
We also want to reiterate that our aim is above all safety. Our rules reflect this, and we are continuously updating these as the situation and general guidelines change. You can find the current version here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JzRd5caeyU9jXv7AGNkPsLjiBvuyPOUKGDld4Haqpt8/edit?usp=sharing>. Our current plan involves all rowers socially distanced and following the risk assessments that have already been approved. With regards to physical contact, this applies only in the case of significant accidents. Otherwise, competitors and spectators should always be socially distanced.
It should go without saying but we also want to emphasise that no individual should be pressured into competing should they not feel comfortable with it, and furthermore, we will be very flexible with changes to crew line-ups. We want this to be a fun event, not something that becomes an issue and point of contention.
We are currently allowing for 60 seconds in between competitors to disinfect the ergs, as this is what the majority of you said was feasible in our earlier survey. However, should you go over 60 seconds while disinfecting, continue cleaning and the extra time will be removed at the end with no penalty. That means that no one should be sacrificing proper sanitisation in order to win. If you have any questions or problems, please please don't hesitate to get in touch. We want as many people as possible to be involved, so hopefully we can work something out for your club (e.g. alternating between two ergs so that there is extra time to clean down each erg).
Again, please sign up as soon as possible. We need advance commitment on whether your boat club wants to take part, so that we can work with each of you individually to create a solution that is safe and reliable. We have a lot of backup solutions and alternatives ready to build something bespoke for you and your crews. This should be an event that is both enjoyable and safe.

Best wishes
Anna Feest and Sam Amey
