Dear Captains,

Before and during the start of term, there are several things which need to
be addressed. Also included are a few important things to note for this
term.

**********
1) Captains' Meeting
2) Lower Boats Captains Course
3) Club Information Form, Insurance
4) Safety Form
5) Early Morning Restrictions
6) Early Morning Marshals
7) Early Morning Noise
**********

1) Captains' Meeting
There will be a meeting for all captains of college clubs to be held at
Goldie Boathouse in the Captains' Room at 5pm on Monday, 5th October to
address various pre-term issues. The agenda for this has already been sent
around.

2) LBC Course
To be held at 2pm on Monday, 5th October, in Robinson Auditorium.
Attendance is expected of all LBCs. A register will be taken and anyone not
present will be expected to have emailed in advance to ensure that they
receive, and read, the relevant safety information. (Please note the change
in time from previously advised)

3) Club Information Form, Insurance
All club information on the CUCBC webpage needs to be updated, including
(and most importantly) insurance. You can do this by signing in to your
account at cucbc.org. All captains should have an account by now, similarly
all email accounts @cucbc.org should have been switched over by now.
Regulation 4a states that your club cannot boat if the insurance is not up
to date by 6th October (the start of Michaelmas full term). If you have any
website queries, direct them to webmaster at cucbc.org

4) Safety Form
All clubs need to have completed and returned the Safety Form (attached),
and return it by week 4 of Michaelmas. This completes your obligation under
rule 4 of the Safety Regulations.

5) Early Morning Restrictions
This is a reminder that no college crew may be on the water during hours of
darkness, as posted on the CUCBC website. No college crew may be on the
water in the 15 minutes before lighting up or the 15 minutes after lighting
down without lights. Lights must be WHITE on both ends and STATIC (not
flashing). Lights also apply to university crews making use of the half
hour before lighting down and after lighting up.

No novice crew may be on the water before 7:30am, or within 15 minutes of
lighting down, whichever is later. All novice boats must be accompanied by
a bank party, and in addition, the first outing of a novice crew must be
coxed by an experienced cox.

It should also be emphasized that the yellow flag will be set when weather
conditions are inclement, especially in Michaelmas term when there are lots
of novices about. The yellow (or similar) flag is not a guideline, crews
must obey the flag that is set on the CUCBC website (no flag will fly at
goldie boathouse). However, at times when a green flag is set, it is at the
discretion of the crew, cox, coaches and captains whether or not a crew
should boat in current conditions. Information about flag changes can be
found on the CUCBC website, as well as a flag forecast system.

6) Early Morning Marshals
A rota for Early Morning Marshals has been posted on the CUCBC website, as
well as instructions for marshals here: http://www.cucbc.org/marshals
Clubs who do not send a marshal, or who send an incompetent marshal will be
fined.

7) Early Morning Noise
Attention is drawn to rules 32 and 33 of the Rules of the River Handbook.
No loud-hailers anywhere on the towpath. Noise before 7:30am to be kept to
a minimum. Coaching from the bank above the railway bridge is not permitted
before 7:30am. After this time, please do not make unnecessary noise, or
crank up your cox boxes to full. Try to use enough to have a productive
outing.

Please send any general queries/requests/complaints/infringement
reports/moans to me at cucbc at cucbc.org. Especially this term however, any
queries about college run events should be sent to the colleges organising
them, and not CUCBC.

Regards,
Derek O'Brien
