Dear Captains,

Please see below for a message from Pete today which didn't get through to the list the

Dear all

yet again with reference to the contentious issue of individuals rowing
for town and college clubs at the same time, bear in mind any such
people who compete for a town club in the upcoming Met regatta are
likely to be spotted (if the number of e-mails I'm getting on the
subject is anything to go by!). If we then get complaints about these
people subsequently and it turns out that we have not been previously
notified about them/are otherwise aware of them, then in all likelihood
I will have no choice but to disqualify them from Bumps crews.

If this issue becomes any more contentious than it currently is, then I
may decide to ask captains to confirm current practice, including the
decisions we have made this term based on it, to an online vote, as an
interim measure before we can have a full discussion of where the
boundaries should lie in future at a captains meeting.

For the record, in my view some people involved in this debate have been
getting far too far from the spirit of what is meant to be a 'friendly'
sporting competition - in all the requests I've been asked to rule on so
far this year I have not seen a single case that in reality can be
described as someone trying to cheat our system - that surely has to be
the basic point of any eligiblity system captains decide to have in
place, as distinct from creating something complex simply with the point
of catching people out?

Thanks
Pete
