Dear All, As you are probably aware the Cam has been in full flood for the past few days. This morning as a result of the raised water levels a narrow boat moored on Midsummer Common lifted its mooring pins and was quickly carried off by the fast current. Thankfully it was noticed by some boaters and a group of rowers, who together, and with some difficulty, managed to get a line onto the boat, securing it to the bank about 500 yards downstream from where it was originally moored. Those of us who have lived on the river for a while know that these things happen from time to time and I’m sure the owner, who arrived soon afterwards, will have learned from the experience. I think I am right in saying that the rowers who did most of the leg work in getting the boat back, and who put themselves at risk without hesitation, were members of the CUBC who had just attended the naming by Prince Phillip of their new eight (apologies if I got these details wrong). I would like to thank them for their efforts and wish them the best of luck in this year’s boat race. I’m sure that everyone, on both sides of the river, will agree that the generosity of spirit they showed is what we should all be striving for on the Cam. Ewan nb Troll P.S. Could someone forward this to the appropriate rowing club mailing lists?[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
