no-one should feel particularly worried, however vigilance is always a good

font-family:Arial'>There have been a few incidents on the river recently
involving the general public threatening either rowing crews or their
coaches. In light of this, please would all coxes and coaches make sure
that they have a mobile on them at all times when on the water.</span></font></p>

font-family:Arial'> </span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>If you encounter people threatening you with physical
violence, try to get out of any dangerous situation immediately (obviously!)
and then call the police.</span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'> </span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>There are two numbers which might be needed:</span></font></p>

font-family:Arial'>The first is 999 – use this if the people threatening
you are still in the area – this should provide a direct response.</span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>The second is 0845 456 456 4 – use this if you have
been threatened/physically abused, but the criminals are no longer in the area.</span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>It goes without saying that if you witness anything happening
to another crew then please stop and check they are ok.</span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'> </span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>Would all coxes please also make sure that the numbers are
stored on their phone in case they are needed, particularly the second which is
not so obvious to remember.</span></font></p>

font-family:Arial'>Finally, there is a misconception that “E-Cops”
replaces the need to report a crime. This is wrong as E-Cops is intended
as a means of establishing communication between citizens and the police and a
report through this channel may not even generate a record. Therefore,
any incidents must be reported through one of the above two numbers.</span></font></p>
