<html><head><style type="text/css"><!-- DIV {margin:0px;} --></style></head><body><div style="font-family:times new roman, new york, times, serif;font-size:12pt"><DIV>Dear all</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>before someone asks, time to remind about these:</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Practice bung line starts are permitted from boathouses on the Monday and Tuesday of Bumps week. Even though racing starts on Tuesday, they are not permitted on Sunday, not least as many crews will be boating or returning from the Winter League next Sunday. The function of these is to practice the act of pushing off and lining up, it is NOT an opportunity to practice full starts and longer pieces. At the very most a crew should do the first 3-5 strokes of a start, in order that the cox can gain experience of what happens at the actual moment of start.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>There is no restriction from practicing starts during outings, and clubs have sometimes set up a chain and pole from an actual start position. However, if you do this, obviously be aware of (and avoid!) the potential to obstruct other crews.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Please be aware that longer starts create considerable wash and disturbance to boats moored along the river near boathouses, as well as creating potential problems when crews are doing this from several boathouses.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Thanks</DIV>
<DIV>Pete</DIV></div></body></html>
