We appreciate the frustration that closing the river causes, likewise eagerness to boat with open water. Members of crews permitted to boat under a Yellow Flag may do so in fours or small boats (i.e. single and double sculls and pairs) with the express permission of the Club Captain and/or Boatman. Outlook: The river level continues to fall and the stream has substantially lessened since the weekend. Only boat if you are comfortable with boating based on the conditions; coxes should feel empowered to overrule their coaches and rowers in deciding not to go out of they don't feel safe. If you do go out, take into account the effect of the higher than normal stream round corners; spin further upstream from the weir than you would normally allow yourself; and maintain a greater distance between yourself and other crews. When stationary, you will drift and so make sure to take appropriate taps and backing down strokes to avoid getting too close to other crews which will also be drifting and adjusting. Do not perform 'aggressive' overtakes when you and other boats have less control of steering.
