Dear Captains and coxes,

If you plan to join Sunday's briefing/s in person (details below), please
note the following request from Girton:

Space has been allocated to park your bike for the briefings. Cycle through
the main arch and turn right; a fenced off space will be available to park
your bike. (What 3 words: ///popped.shirt.chair) Please do not park on the
Fellows' cycle racks. The porter's lodge is found in the archway.

Thanks, looking forward to seeing you then.

Subject: [CUCBC Coxes] Tuesday results, and Notes & Fines
Message-ID: <CAEqdMRBxFEA4dUksikCLt8HzuGAYbkz-nUvGFKFzChX4uwHTBQ@mail.gmail.com>

Dear all,

The results of Tuesday's racing are available here:
http://www.cucbc.org/lents/results

*Notes from the Umpires*

   - Thank you all crews for bearing with us with re-row delays today, and
for generally behaving sensibly to help everything to run smoothly!
   - Crews should carry on rowing upon being bumped until they are clear of
the bumping boat. Failure to do so puts your own cox in danger. Coxes
should ensure they are clear on how and when to conceed the bump (e.g.
holding a hand up-and-out, opposite to the side the bumping crew is
   approaching on).
   - Please remind bank parties that handheld filming is not allowed. They
must use a handlebar mount, helmet mount or similar if they would like to
   film the races whilst cycling.
   - Bank parties are strictly limited to four cyclists.
   - Please ensure that bank parties are quick and reactive in pulling
boats in once they've bumped out - umpires are not here to save your bow
   balls.
   - If clearing, especially to the inside of a corner, please pull in and
bury blades for racing crews. Make sure your stern does not drift out into
the racing line at any point.
   - Thank you to all umpires and marshals for your time today. Please
continue to ensure marshals are briefed ahead of turning up.

*Fines*

   - Darwin M1 - Illegal practice start - ?40
   - Downing W2 - Overshooting marshalling - Bring a sat nav tomorrow
   - Clare Hall M1 - Late holding it up - ?30
   - Clare Hall M1 - Early Celebration - ?20
   - Corpus Christi M1 - Public Urination - ?75

Subject: [CUCBC Coxes] Wednesday Results and Notes & Fines
Message-ID: <CANV+xGrfm0vnRruoQnxjixBTymScFwOejkbau2JoUjh8aCh5zA@mail.gmail.com>

Dear all,

The results of Wednesday's racing are available here:
https://cucbc.org/lents
Notes from the Umpires

   - Bank parties with crews at the Plough, please ensure you keep the
towpath clear. Umpires and spectators will pass through when you're
   counting down.
   - Bank parties cycling with crews both down to the start and during
racing, please cycle in single file to allow umpires to get to where they
   need to be.
   - If you thought today's weather was bad, you're in for a treat the rest
of the week. Bring enough kit to stay warm!
   - Please be prompt on the way down to the start. If every crew in a
division were to deliberately faff for 10s before paddling on we lose 3
minutes that we can ill afford for a 40 minute division turnaround. Any
crews blatantly wasting time may find themselves losing the option to have
a standing start at the Plough.
   - We may fire a division early if everyone is on station and ready,
rather than have crews sitting around unnecessarily.
   - Marshals, please arrive at Control 10 minutes before your slot.

Fines

   - Caius M1 - Foul language - ?30
   - Caius M1 - Failure to follow marshal's instructions - Warning
   - Caius M1 - Excessive bank party (first offence) - ?30

   blades - Respect

Dear all,

The results of Thursday's racing are available here: https://cucbc.org/lents

Notes from the Umpires

   - There was a small backpack left at control. The owner is welcome to
collect it tomorrow or Saturday, if they can give a sufficiently detailed
description of the bag and its contents.
   - There was a glove and whistle left at control. The owner is welcome to
   collect it tomorrow or Saturday.
   - Coxes please remember to check behind you before deciding which side
of the river to clear to, and clearing to the inside of a corner should
always be an absolute last resort if there is no safe way to either row on
(rating back up if required) to get clear of the corner, or to get to the
   outside of the corner.

Dear Captains and coxes,

I don't think it would come as a surprise to anyone if I said it's wet
outside....

We've had reports that the hard around the boat houses are flooded as well,
meaning that the river levels will be high today and the bank waterlogged.
Please be careful when pulling in and getting in/out of boats, and boating
in general today- we don't want anyone falling in.

It is inevitable that you, your crews and bank party are going to get
somewhat wet today; we urge you to pack extra layers, extra shoes/wellies
and space blankets for your crews.

We will endeavour to limit the time you are stationary as we did yesterday,
but need your help in pushing off together when asked and not trying to
"make time" for your crew to do extended starts/pieces.

All best, and good luck to those racing today,
Lee

Due to high water level and strong stream, coupled with rain and freezing
temperatures, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all racing
today on safety grounds.

We'll reassess tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy staying warm and dry!

Dear all,

We're sorry that no racing was possible today due to circumstances outside
of our control.

It's too early to judge yet whether racing can safely take place tomorrow,
but we will assess conditions in the morning and update everyone via email.
Any racing that is possible tomorrow will be in accordance with the
published division schedule, we cannot start earlier and cannot continue
into the hours of darkness.

*Notes from the Umpires:*

Should racing take place tomorrow (fingers crossed!) it will still be cold
and wet. Please ensure that you dress appropriately and bring spare kit.

*Fines:*

Chief Umpire: Forgot the date for WeHoRR and booked the weather gods for
the wrong week. Provide perfect racing conditions for the Mays.

Hopefully we'll be able to see you all again out there tomorrow!

Dear All,

Following further inspection of the course the Chief Umpires have taken the
decision to cancel the M3 and W3 divisions, but to allow the last four
divisions of the day to race (provided that conditions do not deteriorate).

Thank you all for being patient with us today.

The flag is Red/Yellow.

The river is closed, except to tub pairs between Jesus Lock and Chesterton and University crews with the express permission of their Head Coach.

Outlook: Stream remains high and Met office is forecasting gusts in the high 40s mph. Sorry, but it's not a great combo.

Outlook: The river is still high upstream of Cambridge, so we expect the strong stream to continue tomorrow. Strong gusts are also forecast through much of the day, so the flag will remain yellow. All crews should use caution when spinning at Baitsbite, and spin above or at the upstream spinning posts. Crews competing in STCS and the Talbott Cup should check for communications from FaT before boating.

The flag is Green.

There are no restrictions on which crews may boat.

Outlook: River levels have dropped substantially as has the stream. Winds and gusts have also fallen substantially.

However, crews not used to stream on the Cam should exercise caution, and given recent bouts of rain all crews should make sure they spin early at Baitsbite.

We wish all those competing in Second Trinity Challenge Sculls or the Talbott Cup today a good race!
