The CUCBC Committee From limeng at cucbc.org Fri Nov 11 10:37:50 2022 From: limeng at cucbc.org (Limeng Zhu) Date: Fri, 11 Nov 2022 10:37:50 +0000 Subject: [CUCBC Coxes] Notification of Early Morning Restrictions Message-ID: Dear Captains and Coxes, Due to the consistently large number of boats out each morning, the CUCBC Committees have decided to bring in restrictions which will start next Monday 14th November and will remain in force for the rest of this term. Between Lighting Down and 08:30hrs on Monday to Friday each college club will only be permitted to have *two boats on the river at any one time*. (I.e. if two senior VIIIs come back by 0750 from a club, this allows two novice VIIIs to boat at 0750.) This rule applies to IVs and VIIIs but not to singles, pairs or tub pairs. Further details on this rule and penalties can be found on the CUCBC website: www.cucbc.org/handbook/earlies www.cucbc.org/handbook/rules/restrictions[Rule 8] Further, some reminders: Lights must be bright, steady, white and mounted on a fixed point on the bow and stern. There is to be no unnecessary noise, i.e. coaching above the railway bridge before 0730, irrespective of whether you are going out or coming back from the lock; this includes the cox calling drills. You must also follow navigation rules, no matter how late you are running. You must have appropriate lights on when required. Novice crews must have a bank party. The CUCBC Committee From flag at cucbc.org Mon Nov 14 14:01:59 2022 From: flag at cucbc.org (flag at cucbc.org) Date: Mon, 14 Nov 2022 14:01:59 +0000 Subject: [CUCBC Coxes] Yellow Flag Message-ID: The flag is Yellow. Members of crews permitted to boat under a Yellow Flag may do so in fours or small boats (i.e. single and double sculls and pairs) with the express permission of the Club Captain and/or Boatman. Outlook: While visibility has substantially improved since this morning, the Reach remains much foggier than at the boathouses. Conditions are currently borderline, but they are forecast to worsen again for the remainder of the day. As a result the flag will remain yellow. While CUCBC regrets not setting a provisional yellow yesterday evening, all affected crews are reminded that a green flag is a necessary but not sufficient condition to boat. All crews must make their own safety decisions additional to the CUCBC flagging system, and weather forecasts are available. May we further remind all crews: if the Cam is yellow-flagged due to fog, you are required to carry white continuous lights on the bow and stern even during daylight hours. The CUCBC Committee From flag at cucbc.org Mon Nov 14 21:18:03 2022 From: flag at cucbc.org (flag at cucbc.org) Date: Mon, 14 Nov 2022 21:18:03 +0000 Subject: [CUCBC Coxes] Green Flag Message-ID: The flag is Green. There are no restrictions on which crews may boat. Outlook: The flag is just about green for tomorrow -- this will be reassessed before 0630 for wind and fog. The forecast tomorrow is of significant crosswind which may be beyond the capabilities of some novice (and senior) crews. In addition, there is increased chance of thick fog tomorrow morning, especially on the reach, which may necessitate a yellow flag. In any instance, a green flag does not give licence to boat. Every crew must assess the safety and suitability of boating in the prevailing conditions. This may include a cycle to the reach to check conditions there. In any situation where there is fog, lights must be used for the duration of the outing, not just the first 15 minutes following lighting down.
