The squad ranges from people who learned to row last season, to those who have raced at high-profile events including Boat Races and U23 World Championships. We train and race in every boat type throughout the season. The squad has 4 dedicated coaches who coach all of our outings, including British Rowing Coach of the Year Awards winner Tom Copeland. You can watch our 2020/21 promo video here: https://youtu.be/fnNvfwSRI-M *Where we race*: The Cantabs Senior Women race regularly both on- and off-Cam, at local and national events where we are very successful. Last year, each squad member won an average of 4 pots each! Our achievements last season included A-final finishes at regattas where we lined up against crews from clubs such as Leander, to winning the Women's Club 8+ event at the Metropolitan Regatta, qualifying 6 crews for Henley Women's Regatta, making the final of the Aspirational 8+ at Henley Women's Regatta and being the first ever Cambridge women's town crew to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta. In addition, in the Town Bumps, we have held the women's headship since 2017, and this year our W2 bumped to 2nd on the river , with our 3rd and 4th eights finishing 5th and 7th on the river. The 12 Cantabs women's crews finished +29 for the week! *What we're looking for*: With some of our top coxes leaving the squad this season, as well as the squad growing compared to previous seasons, we're looking for new coxes to join the squad. If you're looking to do a bit of extra coxing alongside your college crew (this is allowed within CUCBC rules) so that you can develop your skills and benefit from coaching and to have more racing opportunities, we'd love to hear from you, even if it's just to be a sub who could be called upon from time to time. If you're looking to fully join the squad, and train and race alongside a fun, sociable squad of competitive women who are looking to improve upon last season's results, to enjoy off-Cam training camps, to race outside of Cambridge, and to compete at a national level, we'd also love to hear from you. You never know, you might find yourself steering us down the Henley course, to a headship, or to wins at national events! If you'd be interested in finding out more about the squad, please contact the women's captains Ellie and Molly for more information: womens.captain at cantabsrowing.org.uk -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Please continue to do this- it's a weird time with clubs and crews all affected differently due to COVID. ----- A couple reminders: -Do not spin where you are not supposed to. It gums up the river and makes everyone late. And you will be fined because it annoys everyone following the rules! -Lights are required for the first 15 minutes after lighting down, bright enough to be seen through 360 degrees but not bright enough to blind other coxes -Pairs, doubles and coxless fours need one bank steerer per boat in the early morning no matter how experienced the crew may be -Make sure you are safe overtaking before you do so, especially if you are doing a piece. ----- Captains meeting details, EMMs etc. will be sent out once we have capacity to organise these- apologies for the wait and thanks for the patience. Message-ID: Dear Coxes and Captains, We have had reported a significant incident which occurred on the Cam due to an eight piecing and colliding with an easied crew, injuring rowers. This was discussed at the Captain's meeting yesterday, where it was agreed a reminder would be beneficial to all, Do not overtake when unsafe, ensure you have clear river to do so and to come back onto the correct side. *If you can't see if it is safe or not, it isn't safe!* A bank party is good for cycling ahead and checking for clear river, but the responsibility lies on the cox to judge if an overtake or maneuver is safe. Please be aware that all experience levels of boats are out during michaelmas term, so boatspeeds will be more unpredictable. We are also getting continued reports of loud coxboxes before 0730- please check the volume before you boat and turn down if too loud. There are no restrictions on which crews may boat. Outlook: The forecast for tomorrow (Thursday) morning looks pretty gusty, though if the forecast is correct, it???ll probably fall short of justifying a yellow flag. However, the conditions are probably not going to be suitable for novice coxes with novice crews. Senior crews should be ok, and any relatively competent novice crews with a senior cox might still manage a productive outing, but please ensure your cox and coach have assessed the conditions thoroughly before boating. Please remember that a green flag is not synonymous with permission to boat, and the responsibility still lies with each crew to make the safe decision based on their abilities.
