This is to inform you that we are running a virtual Novice Coxes' and LBC briefing **This Sunday 7th November at 7pm*. *This is intended for Novice Coxes and LBCs only. The aim of this meeting is to help novice coxes consolidate coxing technique, introduce you to the idiosyncrasies of coxing on the River Cam and give you an opportunity to ask questions of senior coxes. We also aim to give LBCs some ideas of how to help, support and develop your novice coxes, and likewise an opportunity to ask open questions to the forum pertaining to novice rowing. There will be an opportunity at the end of the presentation to ask any of the panel, and each other, questions in regards to coxing and LBCing. Attendance is highly recommended, but by no means compulsory. Between Lighting Down and 08:30hrs on Monday to Friday each college club will only be permitted to have two boats on the river at any one time. This rule applies to IVs and VIIIs but not to singles, pairs or tub pairs. Further details on this rule and penalties can be found on the CUCBC website: www.cucbc.org/handbook/earlies www.cucbc.org/handbook/rules/restrictions[Rule 8] Hopefully this will be sufficient notice for all clubs so that you can plan your outings around this accordingly. Further, we have had several more complaints against several college crews for dangerous and reckless behaviour of boats on the river and disregard to navigation rules, resulting in crashes, damage, capsize and injury. For the sake of your own crew's safety, the safety of others and in consideration of other river users (which includes other college crews) this must stop. You must follow navigation rules, no matter how late you are running. You must have appropriate lights on when required. Novice crews must have a bank party. The coxes briefing for Fairbairns will be held immediately following the Clare Novices' Regatta in the same location. It is required that all novice coxes should attend, or send a representative, and this year I would also recommend senior coxes who have not coxed Fairbairns before should consider attending. It should not take very long but will highlight the most important elements to keep racing safe. Fairbairns races on a stretch of the river we don't typically take at speed so please be careful and ensure you have read the coxes notes attached if not attending the briefing. We will be in touch about further details in the near future. Please see the below from the Clare Boat Club committee for more information: *Clare Boat Club are sorry to announce that they are cancelling Clare Novices' Regatta tomorrow, Saturday 27th. The weather forecast is for gusting wind speeds of 34mph at 09.00 increasing to 44mph by 15.00. Racing and manoeuvering boats will be difficult for even the strongest novice crews and starting side-by-side races may become impossible. Even more concerning is that heavy rain is forecast for most of the day and that wind-chilled temperatures will be below freezing, posing a significant hypothermia risk to competitors and race officials alike.* My apologies for all who were looking forward to an exciting day of racing, and we hope to welcome you again in Lent. I would also like to thank all involved in organising the event, particularly my fellow Senior Umpire, Ike Qian, as well as members of the CBC committee.
