Ro Thompson has agreed to run a briefing for any interested coxes on the 12th of March (the Tuesday after bumps) at 7pm. Racing on the Tideway is not like the Cam - the stream makes positioning of your shell much more important when racing, and marshalling is considerably more complex (though no less chaotic...) I can thoroughly recommend this talk to anyone, whether they've raced on the Tideway before or not. Ro has been coxing for 15 years, including three years training on the Tideway with Vesta Rowing Club based in Putney. She has four Tideway pennants, three from WeHORR and one from HORR. Whilst as Vesta she coxed the top womens crew to 3rd and 4th place in WeHORR and raced twice in the elite womens 8s event at Henley Royal Regatta. So she is very well placed to offer guidance on handling racing on the Thames. A venue will be confirmed closer to the time, but I wanted to get this into the diray before the madness that is next week descends upon us all. Best wishes for the last few days of training, and for racing next week, Isabel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The Senior Cox briefing will be held 5-5:30pm. The Novice Cox briefing will be held 5:30-6:15pm. Novice coxes (defined as those who have not competed in a set of CUCBC run bumps before) must attend in person, unless they receive permission to miss it from the CUCBC Safety Officer. Senior coxes (those who have competed before) may be represented by another senior cox, provided that representative undertakes to brief them in turn before the start of racing. Coxes who fail to sign in and who are not represented by another cox will not be able to race during Lents. Members of bank parties and rowers who'd like a bit more insight into what their coxes might be doing are very welcome to attend either (or both!) briefings. *There will also be an informal (and very optional) Q&A with some senior college coxes on how to race bumps well (in addition to safely) immediately after at 6:15pm.* Best wishes, Isabel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If so, this will affect at least the first two divisions racing (1240 and 1320), and possibly later though is forecast to drop quite quickly. Can I ask all to refresh yourselves on the advice sent before Thursday's racing, which was well heeded. Marshall well on time and bring sufficient spare clothing, and competent and experienced bank party members. Be particularly aware around bumping, acknowledging and clearing sensibly and in full control of the crew. If we do suffer delays affecting later divisions, this will be updated via the website and lists, but unless we notify otherwise you should assume your division's marshalling will be on time. Please note there are normally no rerows on Saturday. In an early 'checkmate' situation we may consider rerowing a large part of an obstructed division, but even that will be difficult under the current forecast. Can I also re-emphasise the importance of rowing home safely and sensibly after your race, and in particular no swapping around of crew members or cox.
