Dear all,
Captains: Please ensure this message reaches everyone in your club who is training on the Cam before the start of Michaelmas term.
We’ve received further details from the contractors carrying out the works at the Railway Bridge for the new Chisholm Trail Bridge. They expect to start carrying out piling from the bank from 2nd September. This will not impact navigation initially.
From Monday 9th September - Friday 13th September, 08:00-18:00, expect the river to be partially closed to 50% of its width. When this is the case, they will provide floating buoys around the works, signage up and downstream and bankmen up and down stream to let river users know what is occurring. Please cooperate with them to pass safely through the works.
From Monday 16th September - Friday 20th September and Monday 23rd September - Friday 27th September, 08:00-18:00, the river will need to be completely closed to all traffic at some times. When this is the case, they will provide a boom across the river with signage denoting the river is closed, plus signage further up and downstream and banksmen up and downstream to let people know what is occurring. They will not be fully closing the river past 18.00 nor before 08.00, however there may be 50% navigation restrictions outside those times, as well as between 08:00 and 18:00 (when the river isn’t closed completely), in which case they’ll have the same provisions as the 50% closure above. Again please cooperate with the banksmen to pass through safely when not completely closed.
They assure us that River closures will be kept to a minimum at all times.
We’ll keep you up to date with any schedule changes that may occur as soon as we hear about them.
Best wishes,
Conor
