Would you like to find out why and potentially prevent getting cold hands? If so, please contact me, Stephanie Payne (sp627 at cam.ac.uk), and take part in my scientific research specifically looking at how coxing may affect our circulation and dexterity. In return for your participation, you will receive a free pair of hand warmers, complimentary chocolate, and a chance to win a pair of waterproof SealSkin gloves! The research looks at how hand coordination changes with brief exposure to cold. You will carry out a brief coordination test before and after immersing your hands in cold water for 3 minutes. You will also have a 3D body scan and have body composition measured, which is really useful data for any cox/athlete. The study will take no longer than an hour, you only need to attend once, and the study is being held from November 2016 - February 2017. Please let me know if you interested in participating. CUCBC does not set the flag status during vacations. Outlook: Believe it or not, there is a horse stuck in the river in the spinning zone. The fire department will be along to fish it out. Please refrain from piecing past it, plan you spin well beyond the zone (yes, just this once) and try and move through the spinning zone on the meadow side to avoid further distressing it. (Ignore the non op flag - I just need something odd to get people to read the outlook) The CUCBC Committee From flag at cucbc.org Fri Nov 11 08:57:48 2016 From: flag at cucbc.org (flag at cucbc.org) Date: Fri, 11 Nov 2016 08:57:48 +0000 Subject: [CUCBC Coxes] Green Flag Message-ID: The flag is Green. In each case, crews had pulled out to overtake or gone wide round blind turns, presumably on the assumption that since it was only just past lighting down, there couldn't possibly be anything coming the other way yet. As a reminder, you should *never* assume there's nothing coming and overtake on the wrong side when unable to see. In the context of early mornings, there may well be narrow boats on the water heading into Cambridge, or CRA crews who are not bound by CUCBC rules regarding hours of darkness. Nor is it impossible to meet a college crew returning after suffering equipment failure 5 minutes into their own outing. Please don't wreck not one but two shells in the pursuit of an overtake a few seconds earlier, but wait till you or your bank party can confirm it's safe to come by.
