Dear all

The May Bumps Coxes' Meetings will be held in Robinson College Umney
Theatre on Sunday 9th June.

There will be 2 meetings:

18:00 - Senior Coxes who have coxed bumps before
18:30 - Novice Coxes who have NOT coxed bumps before

All coxes who are competing during bumps are required to attend. A register
will be taken and those who fail to turn up may be fined.

If you are unable to make either of the meetings please ensure that you
send a suitable representative for your crew who can report back any
important information.

Dear all

Just want to bring your attention to the fact the following rule is now in
force:

*"That during the ten days preceding the Lent and May Bumps and the week
preceding the University Fours Races, no boat may spin between the Little
Bridge and Peters Posts except at its own risk."*

Please try to work your outing plans around this from now until bumps. The
reason for this is to reduce the risk of collisions between the large
number of crews doing full course pieces and any pileup of crews waiting to
spin at Ditton.

This should also make it easier for everyone to practice racing the full
bumps course so following it is in everyone's best interest!

There are still a few divisions with a shortage of umpires.

W2 and M2 need more people on all days.

Due to a very large number of scratches, the men's GoR no longer has
competition for places in the start order, and is therefore cancelled. The
4 remaining crews have been randomly assigned a position in the start order
as follows:

   - Clare VI
   - St Catharine's IV
   - Hughes Hall III
   - Churchill III

The women's race is still scheduled to go ahead tomorrow with 11 crews
competing for 9 places.

Because of the significantly reduced size of the race, marshalling for the
race will now be at Baitsbite. Crews should be in position at the lock
pulled in on towpath side by 15:55 to race at 16:00.

Pembroke would like to send a composite crew to take part in the Prince 
Albert Cup at Henley. We are looking for a Stroke side rower who has rowed 
at college M1 level and a cox.

If you are not taking a crew to Henley yourself, could you please ask your 
crews if any of them are interested. Please could you get responses to me 
by Wednesday (12th). The dates are as follows:

Friday 28th June - Qualifying race
Wednesday 3rd July - 1st rounds
Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th - Final rounds

We will be training during the two weeks after bumps, so the rower and cox 
must both be available for outings during these two weeks.

We have changed the way bumps programmes are distributed this year to make
sure more programmes are available and so that we don't run out at the end
of the week on the towpath.

This year Bumps programmes are available on the towpath at Control Desk and
at the Plough pub in Fen Ditton.

We are no longer stocking them in college porters lodges as this system has
been replaced by pre-orders through your the college captains.

Thanks to all crews for a good start to the week. We had a number of
re-rows but managed to get back on time at the end with your help.

*Notes from the Umpires*

   - After a number of dangerous incidents today, please be aware that any
   crew that rows into a stationary boat will be disqualified from racing for
   the rest of the week. This is incredibly dangerous and could easily lead to
   someone getting seriously hurt.
   - When you bump out, you must clear the river as quickly as possible. Do
   not celebrate before clearing and get straight into the bank as the rest of
   the division will be coming up at speed behind you!
   - Bank parties are strictly limited to 4 cyclists. This includes the
   boatman, coaches and any VIPs. Excessive bank parties are extremely
   dangerous, can obstruct the umpires and will therefore be heavily penalised.
   - The bank party limit also includes runners or other people who join
   your crew later on down the course. Please tell all your college members
   that unless they are part of the allotted bank party they are not allowed
   to follow a crew.
   - Also be aware that the towpath is used by people commuting in the
   evenings and all cyclists should be careful of members of the public and
   not obstruct other cyclists or pedestrians.

Treasurer, within 48 hours of this email.
