Message-ID: <D41CA3E34D4540058EE0D7D06BC02979@surfbook6>

Dear all,

We've received several complaints within the last 24 hours (more than for
the rest of term). This is a quick email to encourage everyone to get
through the final two weeks with a minimum of problems, so please:

- take lights if coming back close to lighting up, or even earlier if day is
overcast;
- don't cut up the Georgina as they are amicable and have a long stopping
distance;
- remember that while over the lock is clearer, it isn't empty and charging
into things because you don't think there'll be anything there is a massive
error.

The swan and cygnets are now out on Plough Reach. Please be aware and avoid
them if possible. Do not respond to situations with the residents there
which have the potential to become very hostile. Please make every effort to
remain calm and *quiet* and just row away, avoiding touching the swans.

Finally, it's Strawberry Fair this weekend. Worth making the effort to lock
boathouses when going out and please note that there are likely to be
visiting boats that are very unfamiliar with the Cam.

Thanks,

Holly

Subject: [CUCBC Coxes] Umpiring May Bumps
Message-ID: <006d01cc2218$0b473fc0$21d5bf40$@cucbc.org>

*Please pass this message on to anyone in your club who may be interested in
umpiring*

Many thanks to those of you who have already signed up to umpire the Mays,
though we are still looking for a few more people to make sure the week's
racing runs smoothly, particularly for the higher divisions, M2/W1/M1 on
Friday and Saturday (though help at other times will be appreciated too!)

Umpiring is a really fun way to get involved in the Bumps - you get to see
and be involved in the action from up close on the towpath, either cycling
along with the crews or acting as a static umpire at key points on the
course. In addition to this, you will get a free dinner, probably in May
Week, and umpiring will reduce the number of marshals that your club needs
to provide.

To help out, you don't need to have umpired before although we do ask that
you have rowed or coxed in at least 2 sets of Bumps in the past. There will
be a meeting for all umpires where we will explain everything and those that
have not umpired before will be paired with a 'senior' during the races.

If you would like to help out, please sign up at

http://www.cucbc.org/mays/umpires/signup

indicating which divisions you are available for (the times of the divisions
are listed at http://www.cucbc.org/mays/times).

You can both compete and umpire (although obviously don't sign up to umpire
a division you're competing in!)

If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Hello all,

Chesterton Rowing Club are looking for one or maybe two 'bumps hardened' coxes for this year's town bumps(evenings, 19/7 to 22/7). To cox our M2 and M3 crews, who are in division 2 and division 4 respectively.

The ideal applicants would be extremely tiny and light with a very long neck, a good sense of humour and good sense of direction. Actually, even if you're heavy and can't steer you may be in with a chance..not that we are desperate, of course.

If you think you may be remotely interested in helping probably the smallest rowing club in Cambridge, sustain our positon and standing against the 'big boys'. Then, hesitate not, Chesterton Rowing Club needs you!

Recompense, in the form of booze, fags and lots of gratitude...(chain smoking alcoholics need not apply)

For information regarding possible outings and anything you wish to know, about this wonderful opportunity. Feel free to get in touch.

Many thanks
Simon Emmings

Message-ID: <005c01cc2c7e$db3cd440$91b67cc0$@cucbc.org>

Results from Friday?s racing are now available at
http://www.cucbc.org/mays/results. Friday?s start order is attached.

Notes from the Umpires

? Thank you for another good day?s racing and for baring with us
with a couple of delayed divisions due to the need to rerow part of the M5
division, though with everyone?s co-operation we managed to make up time and
run back on schedule by the end of the day.

? Please do not leave litter on the towpath, including empty water
bottles at the start ? take them with you (they do not add much extra weight
to the boat!) or get bank parties to collect them.

? Please be courteous to other users of the towpath and watch where
you are cycling!

? Bank parties are strictly limited to 4 cyclists (including the
Boatman and any VIPs). This becomes especially important on Friday and
Saturday when the towpath will get busy with spectators.

? Do any of the Colleges who run races still have any CUCBC bibs
lying around? If so, we would appreciate them back.

Fines

Fines may be appealed by e-mailing Dr Holly Hedgeland, CUCBC Senior
Treasurer (seniortreasurer at cucbc.org) within 48 hours.

? Christ?s W2 ? Excessive bank party - ?15

? Clare M2 ? Foul & abusive language - ?20

? Corpus Christi M2 ? Failure to concede and dangerous coxing - ?50

? Homerton W2 ? Failure to hold it up on bumping - ?50

? Jesus W4? Dropped bung (no advantage) - ?15

? Murray Edwards W2 ? Dropped bung (no advantage) - ?15

? Pembroke W4 ? Excessive bank party - ?15

? Selwyn W3 ? Dropped bung (no advantage) - ?15

? Sidney Sussex W2 ? Ignoring marshals? instructions - ?20

Notes from the Umpires

? Thank you for another good day?s racing despite the weather!

? The towpath is likely to be very busy tomorrow. Please be
courteous to others and watch where you are cycling!

? Be careful with umbrellas when cycling ? do not hold them out to
the side of the bike and if standing by the towpath, please make sure your
umbrellas are not going to get in the way of cyclists.

? Bank parties are strictly limit to 4 cyclists (or runners). This
will be enforced strictly on Saturday and crews will be heavily penalised if
bank parties impede the umpires.

? Please do not leave litter on Stourbridge Common or First Post

? There is a wasps? nest on Grassy Corner. Please be careful.

back home) ? chopping wood

? Peterhouse W2 ? Failure to clear - ?25

? St. Catharine?s W2 ? Excessive bank party - ?15
