Please remind all your crews, coaches, coxes of this, and do your utmost to avoid noise complaints, particularly before 0730. The meeting will be held at 7.30pm sharp in the Lubbock Room, Peterhouse. I will be running through some important safety information that CUCBC are obliged to hand out to all the coxes, as well as giving some (hopefully) helpful advice on coxing and coxing development that should be of interest to all. I will also be around afterwards to answer any questions. Representatives from the the Cam Conservators and the houseboat community of the Cam will also be giving brief presentations. As you know, it is vitally important for our continued use of the river that we respect the other river users, and this part of the presentation should give us all some indication as to how we can avoid further restrictions of how we use our river. I realise this is reasonably short notice, but it is important if some coxes are unable to attend due to genuinely pressing engagements, that representatives from their respective clubs are in attendance to relay the salient points. A quick roll call will be taken. The Porters at Peterhouse should be able to give directions to the Lubbock room, but just in case directions are below: 1. Go through the main gate at Peterhouse and into the first court. 2. At the far side of the court there is an archway, head through this into the second court. 3. Continue straight on into the top right hand side of the court, and then follow round to the right. 4. In front should be a door leading through to the library, head through here and then turn left for the Lubbock room. Look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday. This message has been repeated several times already at captains meetings / Pete's email on Friday - please take it on. This morning some local residents were quite annoyed about the noise - we've got to avoid any cause for people to make complaints. Fines (?20 - ?50) will be issued if any specific crews (including bank parties) are seen being noisy. Julian --- The handbook states: 32. All crews must ensure that they do not create unnecessary noise anywhere on the river before 7.30am. 33. In particular, loud hailers may not be used anywhere on the towpath, and the use of cox-boxes, and coaching from the bank should be kept to a minimum before 7.30am. Coaching from the bank above the railway bridge is not permitted at all before this time. CUCBC may stop coaches from accompanying crews from the boathouses to the Penny Ferry for breaching this rule. 34. a. That the rules of the river, and especially Rules 32 and 33 will be enforced by a system of early morning marshals. The system shall operated by the Executive Committee and the College Boat Clubs will be required to provide marshals according to a rota. Crews violating Rules 32 and 33 will be fined and may be banned from the river. Guidelines for early morning marshals can be found in Appendix B. b. That the marshals shall also enforce the early morning traffic restrictions described in Rule 8. Unfortunately the 8 rowers are only available at the same time when all of our senior coxes are unavailable. Would anyone be interested in subbing for us once a week? Chocolate/booze/Boat Club Dinner invite on offer as a thank you as preferred. The outing would be most Fridays, meeting at 11:50am and finishing in time for people to get to 2pm lectures/supervisions. We would be starting from this Friday, 6th November. Please let me know asap if you can help. We are looking for an experienced cox - preferably somebody who has coxed a first boat before, and somebody we can trust not to damage our fairly new boat or get confused coxing a bow-rigged boat!
