Could you please drop me a quick line with your College and boat if you came today...just curious to see the cross-section of people. Another lovely reminder about next week...7.15pm senior coxes and 7.45pm for coxes new to Mays in the Latimer Room, Clare College. We give you the official party line on safety and from now on, it's become more serious. Legally, we now physically have to give you hard copies of the salient points so there is even more emphasis on you or a representative turning up. I'm afraid that we will have to take action against those who don't simply because it's our backsides on the line if we don't do our best to ensure everyone is safe. Update on elections...I currently have a potential two candidates for Coxing Rep. This is good...nothing wrong with more. Blurb and election will happen at 7.40pmish. This is being circulated to club captains and coxes lists to ensure all are aware of both the general procedures and, specifically, of the instructions that will be issued in the event of an 'emergency stop' being required during a racing division. Please note that the detail of the instructions has not changed, but that the need to circulate this information widely by this route has been necessitated by the incidents involving barges in the Lents. The information will be repeated in the various briefings on Sun 8 June, but please ensure that your club members, including coaches, are aware of it. I'm hearing too many instances of both crews and bank parties abusing opposing crews and supporters after bumps. We are following some of these up. However, please apply a reality check - the Bumps is a sports event. Yes, you have trained, you want to do well, and celebrate when you succeed/are frustrated when you don't. No, this does not need to spill over into aggression and insults against other crews and individuals when you have bumped them or been bumped. If you descend to that behaviour you simply?devalue what you've just done, and, as per the notes from Friday, you risk fines and even losing your bump! So, captains, please emphasise this and set a good example to your club members and supporters. Coxes, please remember this as part of keeping discipine within your crew after any bumps or other incidents have happened. Thanks, and let's have a good day's racing today.
