All,
Now that bumps is over, it's time to think about that summer training programme, or even rowing after Cambridge. If you live in or near Southampton, there are several clubs to choose from that open up the possibility of getting some water-time in, as well as providing a preferable alternative to the pain of watching 'gym-rowers' at r33 while you confuse them with your powerful r18.
I graduated last year, and joined Southampton Coalporters ARC. It's located near the centre of the city, with very good land training facilities (16 ergs and comprehensive weights, with separate hall for stretching / core... and a bar), in addition to plenty of boats and an opportunity for some racing on the coastal rowing circuit. Members are friendly and helpful. Membership prices for the summer are cheaper than most gyms, so it seems like a no-brainer to me! For those allergic to the idea of coastal rowing (like me), don't worry, river rowing is available too!
For more details, please contact myself (Selwyn Captain 09-10 - cchrisco1 at hotmail.com) or Andy Parsons (Trinity alumnus - andy_frankie.p at virgin.net) to arrange a day and time to come and look around the club and facilities.
Regards,
Chris Cottingham
