This morning there was a wooden single scull floating upside down near the new
Riverside (Tesco) footbridge. The owner of a nearby houseboat said there were
some kids playing around in it late last night and they abandoned it after it
capsized. There was a large tear in the stern canvas, so the stern section had
filled with water, but it otherwise appeared undamaged. There was no boat
identification number that I could see.
With the help of a Wolfson College coach, I towed it to the Churchill
boathouse hard and put it on the outside rack on the grass there, together
with the wooden oars (green macons with a yellow stripe and old-style leather
sleeves) that had been in the gates. If you have recently lost a wooden single
that matches this description, you now know where to look for it.
