Could you please forward this to your boat clubs, especially your Novices.
Thank you

Cardinals is a good way to finish the term off, especially if you are not
the most experienced rower. It is supposed to be fun and all that is
required is that you hve noviced before.

Enties are now open for Cardinals, so get your entry form in to LC Bierer´
pigion hole at St Catharines College

Catz Cardinals´ Regatta

Cardinals` Regatta is the funnest rowing event of
the year. It is not about how much you have trained, it is about dressing
up and having a fun day, so everyone is welcome to participate as long as
you have sat in a boat before. Especially people who have noviced but gave
up rowing are encouraged to participate. As Catz is organizing this regatta
I expect a big turnout from Catz and I will personally make sure that every
Catz crew will get a head start (obviously under the condition that you
dress up and bribe us). So keep the 13th of March which is the Thursday
after lectures finish free.

A bit about Cardinals' Catz Cardinals' is a regatta unlike any other. It
takes place on the 9th Thursday of Lent term, the day after lectures end
for most people. This year it will be held on the 13th March, 2008, which
happens to be my 21st birthday.

There will be two classes to enter, fun VIII's and fun VI's. Wherever
possible, crews should be half male and half female. Everyone is welcome -
colleges, departments, societies or town crews - there are no restrictions.
You do not have to have much rowing experience, everyone who has at least
Noviced is welcome to participate.

The winner of the fun VIII's will win the Cardinals' trophy. In addition to
prizes for rowing fast, the best prize will go to the best fancy dress and
any fully dressed up crew will get a head start in their races! The more
insane your costume the better! This race is not about rowing seriously, it
is about fun, so any crew turning up in lycra will be at disadvantage.

The race course is short - approximately 500m long from the bottom of the
reach to the Pink House. The regatta will be run as a knockout competition
with crews racing alongside each other at each stage.

A very important part of Cardinals' is bribery. If you've done well in
other races because of your superb rowing technique and hours of training,
it may be time to rethink your strategy. The more marshals you bribe, the
more likely you are to get a head start...

All in all, Cardinals' is a great chance to dress up, bribe people and row
for fun in the same boat as members of the opposite sex! (Though we do
recommend equal numbers of male and female bow and stroke-siders otherwise
there might be a few problems with straight lines.)

Spectators are more than welcome and you'll be able to get a good view
either side of the reach.

For further information, please contact Laura Bierer (lcb43), the regatta's
organiser.

First Aiders Needed

To ensure that Cardinals Regatta runs smoothly I need
some First Aiders to help out on the day. It will be a fun day with lots of
chocolate and bribes, and you wont have to do much. All that is required is
to be at the river and save people´s lives if required. There will
obviously be some reimbursement for your efforts in form of a small present
and probably some Stash in form of a T-Shirt. It is a good way to end the
term as it is on the Thursday after lectures finish (13th March) and I
ensure you will have a great day as all crews are required to dress up and
enjoy themselves rather than to think about rowing fast. If you are
interested please contact Laura Bierer, lcb43

Marshals Needed

SCCBC is organizing Cardinals Regatta and to ensure the
smooth running of the event it would be great if as many of you would be
prepared to Marshal for some or all of the time. It is ensured to be a
great day as you will receive lots of bribes and as it is a fancy dress
race you can look forward to laughing at lots of weird costumes. In
addition there will probably be some free Stash in form of a T-Shirt. The
event raises quite a bit of money for the Boat Club, so I want to ensure
that it is run well. This year it will be held on the 13th of March, which
is the Thursday after lectures finish, so there is no excuse that you have
too much work. Get in contact with me, Laura lcb43, if you are interested
in helping.
