Please join here . *General notices* 1. There have been reports of an aggressive individual on the meadow side of the P&E area, challenging coaches' rights to be on that side of the river (i.e. to support crews from closer-to). Please be assured that you have every right to use that path - any issues should be reported with as much detail as possible to the Cam Conservators River Patrol Officer here (and please do let the committee know). 2. The news you've all been waiting for - EMMs are released ! (as in, up on the website. You/they are not free to sleep) 3. A general reminder; the best way to guarantee a quick reply when contacting the committee is to send it to all of our inboxes: committee at cucbc.org *Agenda for Sunday* 1. Lent Bumps - Dates - Entry fees - Eligibility rules reminder - Marshals and umpires - Briefings 2. EMMs 3. Reminders about lights for all coaches: - Ensure lights are white, continuous, visible (new year, new batteries!), and attached to both the bow and stern of the boat (not people or riggers). EMMs will be instructed to note dim and missing lights where relevant. Fines will be introduced from a crew's second offence. - Lights should be on no matter the time if the flag is yellow due to fog. This makes it even more important that they be bright enough! 4. Lent Term rules reminders: - no spinning at the bottom of the Reach in the first 15 minutes after lighting down. - all crews boating within 15 minutes of lighting down must maintain full crew, full slide rowing until Chesterton footbridge. 5. Updated policy on borrowing equipment for College-run races: fines will be charged for not returning within 3 days of the event or via specific arrangement. 6. CUCBC Commitee positions available to apply for (vote in pre-Easter Term Captains' meeting) 7. AOB Many thanks, and safe travels to those of you yet to head back to Cambridge. Based upon EMM reports and Committee observation of early mornings last week, and following discussion, the CUCBC Committees have decided to enact the 15-minute rule, effective from Monday 30th January. We will reiterate this at the captains meeting this Sunday. 15 minute rule: "Only first Eights may boat within the first 15 minutes after Lighting Down, or after the allowed boating time on Saturdays and Sundays. All other crews may boat 15 minutes after Lighting Down." (15 minute rule: http://www.cucbc.org/handbook/earlies) Do note this is for 1st VIIIs only, and is not affected by position in Lents or Mays. This should hopefully reduce frustrations and increase spacing of boats on the river. If this doesn't work, we'll look at bringing the two-boat system in instead; but our hope is that the 15-minute rule is sufficient to give crews more time rowing and less time queueing. Please can you inform EMMs to enforce this from this Monday , for everyone's benefit. Secondly a reminder regarding lights (have solid white lights on stern+bow), traffic (full crew, full slide, spin at lock if pushing off in first 15 minutes) and noise (minimal noise before 0730 upstream of the *railway* bridge; except for emergencies (e.g. capsize, imminent crash, attacking lions). As promised yesterday evening, Bumps entries are now open. Please enter all your crews on the CUCBC website by noon on Tuesday 21 February. (Log into your CUCBC account, then click on 'Bumps Entries' in the box where the login box used to be.) Soon after this, we will release the draw for the GoR. The cost of entry is ?50 per boat. Those that row the GoR but fail to get on will have that reduced to ?25. Please do all carefully read the eligibility rules for Bumps (General | CUCBC and Lent and May Races | CUCBC ). For example: - Those with 1st boat colours may not row/steer any lower than the third division/third boat, whichever is lower (NB: those who have rowed and coxed are considered separately for rowing and coxing). - Those with University colours (including reserves) may not row/steer lower than the third boat. - No crew will be allowed to race that contains more than two Lent Term novices. Also recall the rules on exceptional status members (mostly College-affiliated fellows/post-docs/staff), which need to be declared by Wednesday to be allowed to race. They may not row in/steer your first boats unless you only have one boat on the appropriate side; no more than two exceptional status members may compete in any boat; and no more than two exceptional status members may compete on each of your men's and women's sides. Also please recall that all crews wishing to enter Bumps *must* have completed 12 outings *of 60 minutes of longer* by the first day of Bumps (outings on weekdays after 9am count as 1.5). We will be asking for 12-outing declarations in due course. The pre-Bumps briefings will take place on the evening of Sunday 5 March, location TBD. Please make sure all coxes - in particular those coxes that have not rowed Bumps before - keep this evening available, else they will not be allowed to compete. Those which have rowed Bumps before may send a competent representative in their stead if they are unavailable.
