Good morning!
Entries for this years' University IVs races are now open on the CUCBC website, entries will remain open until midday Fri 21st October 2022.
Racing will take place w/c Mon 31st October, a timetable of races will be published once entries have closed. All races will take place in the afternoon, with the first races usually starting ~2:30 pm, it may not be necessary for races to be held every day of the racing week.
For those unfamiliar with the Uni IVs competition, this is a timed competition along a ~2km course, starting just downstream of the A14 bridge, and finishing just downstream of the railway bridge, however, two crews race the course at the same time! Crews start (standing start) after being lined up ~120 m apart, the crew that starts furthest downstream then chases the other crew along the course, both boats race to a finish separated by the same distance as the start posts, the chasing crew races until the first finish and the crew that starts further upstream races to the further finish (i.e. closest to the railway bridge). Overtaking is permitted on the long reach only, if the chasing crew overtakes their race will still end when they cross the lower finish.
Further information about the regulations of Uni IVs, including which division crews should be entered to can be found here <https://www.cucbc.org/handbook/racing/uni_fours>.
Finally, please note that clubs which enter the Uni IVs competition will be required to be supply marshals to help with the running of races, a marshalling rota will also be published once the racing timetable is finalised. Marshals are compulsory and essential to the safe running of the races; any club which fails to provide their allocated marshal(s) may be disqualified from the event.
Best wishes,
Luke & Luke
