Marshals: Should arrive at railway bridge by 14:45, needed for both divisions. Failure to provide your allocated marshal may result in disqualification. They should be competent. Wednesday Thursday Friday Caius Caius Caius Churchill Churchill Emma First and Third Downing Downing Girton Homerton Hughes Hall King's Jesus King's LMBC LMBC LMBC Magdalene Magdalene Magdalene Pembroke Pembroke Pembroke Selwyn Sidney St Catz Bank parties are limited to four cyclists. Any substitutions must reach us ASAP. Those competing in the 'Second Division', ie marshalling at the Railway Bridge as opposed to Baitsbite, *must* carry white, continuous lights on the bow and stern. Life jackets, bow balls, heal restraints and working CoxBoxes all also required of course. Results will be updated on the website as soon as possible after the day's racing. The river will be closed between Railway Bridge and Baitsbite, but you can still send out crews to the P&E and back if you like - although please do not obstruct crews heading down to marshalling. If you have any questions or concerns, please shoot us a message at committee at ..., sooner rather than later! Happy racing! Please let me point out that there is predicted to be an 18mph southerly wind and 35mph gusts during the racing later. The feels-like temperature is predicted to be 11C, and while the chance of precipitation remains low, consider the spontaneous precipitation of Cam water. This is traditional yellow flag weather; however, as only first boats are racing today, the races will be going ahead. However, please make sure your crews are properly kitted, with towels and dry clothes back at BH, and dry, warm kit available while waiting around while marshalling. No one wants to see anyone getting hypothermia. Fortunately, the forecast for Thursday and Friday is much better. Happy racing! A couple of boats have recently had issues with the mooring chains alongside Riverside. Please encourage your coxes to stay aware of keeping bows/blades clear as much as possible (not that anyone ever aims to make contact, but!), and ensure they know what to do if they get snarled up. Unless otherwise specified, a yellow flag does not preclude novice coxes from taking crews out. However (and as always should be the case anyway), the cox and coach should decide whether the coxswain's experience is suitable for the conditions. We expect crews to err on the side of caution, and CUCBC reserves the right to fine crews for boating with an inexperienced crew if the responsibility for this decision is not taken seriously. Please note that having an experienced rower with the ability to support the cox at stroke seat does not replace the need to ensure that every cox is happy with their own abilities to boat in the relevant conditions. The committee continue to monitor the number of boats using the river and to discuss whether either the 15 minute rule or the two boat rule would be a net benefit when the implications on all crews are considered. 70 boats were out this morning according to the EMM; we'll update you as soon as possible. At this stage in term, just a gentle reminder that basic rules should still be followed please: - No bank coaching/excessive noise before 0730 above the railway bridge; - Please watch noise on the hard before boating as sound carries; - Crews on the water within 15 minutes of lighting up or lighting down must have static white lights (clearly visible) attached to both the bow and stern of the boat - not to people or other pieces of equipment like lifejackets; - Crews coming upstream have right of way; - The trial spinning zone for novice boats travelling downstream only (from Jesus lock away from town) is between Caius and Christ's boathouses. The river is too narrow to safely spin further downstream towards the Fort St George. The stream should be taken into account and houseboats avoided. Please also note that priority should continue to be given to boathouses within the spinning zone. - Please make sure that crews row on as soon as possible once spun to keep the spinning zones clear, and remain aware of what's happening behind if you want to stop. Between Lighting Down and 08:30hrs on Monday to Friday each college club will only be permitted to have *two boats on the river at any one time*. (I.e. if two senior VIIIs come back by 0750 from a club, this allows two novice VIIIs to boat at 0750.) This rule applies to IVs and VIIIs but not to singles, pairs or tub pairs. Further details on this rule and penalties can be found on the CUCBC website: www.cucbc.org/handbook/earlies www.cucbc.org/handbook/rules/restrictions[Rule 8] Further, some reminders: Lights must be bright, steady, white and mounted on a fixed point on the bow and stern. There is to be no unnecessary noise, i.e. coaching above the railway bridge before 0730, irrespective of whether you are going out or coming back from the lock; this includes the cox calling drills. You must also follow navigation rules, no matter how late you are running. You must have appropriate lights on when required. Novice crews must have a bank party. Conor Burgess has provided your contact details. Anglia Ruskin offer a Sports Therapy degree and have recently opened a clinic open to all. The therapists are 3rd year Sports Therapy students working under the supervision of a qualified physiotherapist and is lower cost accordingly. Perhaps you could share and-or post this to a noticeboard where the 'future injured' could find it? https://aru.ac.uk/science-and-engineering/business-and-commercial/performanc e-and-exercise-testing/sport-and-exercise-therapy-clinic The clinic is currently open Monday afternoons during term-time but will open up further as demand builds. Thank you in anticipation of your help. Any questions, let me know. Chris Wood Chesterton Rowing Club -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... All rules are on the Clare website which is likely more legible than just the slides too https://www.clareboatclub.org.uk/cnr.php please make sure you are familiar with them before Saturday just to keep everything smooth and safe. Please remember to bring spare dry kit to keep warm. If any crews are sharing boats and haven't let me know yet, please do so ASAP as I may still be able to move around timings to make that easier for you. Remember novice crews still need at least 1 bank party to be allowed out and our race doesn't allow more than 4. Numbers will be available for collection from Clare boat house Friday at 4pm-5pm, only one person needs to collect from each college. best wishes, Sam On Sun, 20 Nov 2022 at 18:06, Clare Novice Regatta Senior Umpire < claregatta at gmail.com> wrote: > There has been some interest in having a zoom option for the briefing so > here is the link. Also just to clarify the two timetables, the "original" one will be updated through the day with all winners and the margins, the "updating" one will also update the cells that say "winner of C3" or similar with the actual crews that won so as to make the draw more legible later in the day. I hope that is clear to you. Also I have received an email from CUCBC saying that since we have control of navigation we can allow college crews to row earlier to 11am even if they are not competing. As such we have decided to open up the 10:30 am row through slot for colleges as well. We don't feel any earlier would be a good idea due to the extra volume of traffic from the town clubs. If you have not paid please do so by the end of tomorrow or we may remove your entries. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow when collecting numbers from Clare boat house between 4-5pm, or during the racing on Saturday.
