Dear Captains, Wishing you all well at the end of what has been a busy term! Entries are now open for the BUCS Regatta. Entries close on Tuesday 19 April 2021 at 23:59 for student/competitors. All event information can be found here, please read this through carefully if you intend to submit entries: https://www.bucs.org.uk/events-page/rowing-regatta-2021-1.html To enter, all competitors must apply individually on BUCS play, either via the app (recommended) or through the website. Simply download the app, navigate to BUCS Regatta within the Rowing 21-22 community, complete eligibility form and apply for the category in which you'll be racing. Note that to make any substitutions after the closing date, your substitutes must be listed on the reserve list on BUCS Play (unless they are entered into another category already), so I strongly advise making use of the reserve list and having a couple of reserves for each crew. Please let me know if your college intends to enter any of the categories at BUCS Regatta so I can look out for them, and also let me know of any queries. Sparks Rowing, a US company that designs rowing camps for secondary school students? performance and personal growth, are holding a camp for coxes and rowers on the Tideway from 4-17th July. The camp attendees are predominantly US high school students aged 16-17. Sparks are seeking current University students to join the camp in a fellowship capacity. The role of the fellow is to train and race alongside the high school students and to act as role models and provide leadership and guidance to them, and it is a great chance to work with some like minded people and to develop your own leadership skills. There is no charge for attending the camp as a fellow, but you will need to find your own accommodation in/near Putney and you will need to be a member of British Rowing. In return you will get; two weeks of training and top level coaching, entry to Kingston and Molesey regattas, racing kit, lunch each day and the chance to develop your own skills in rowing and leadership. Full details can be found here: https://sparksrowing.com/rowing-camps/camps/sparks-rowing-fellowship There is an admissions process for the position, details of which are given on the link. The FAQ at the bottom of the page explains how to get in touch with Sparks if you have questions about the position. A couple questions were asked which I needed to clarify with rest of EC/SC before responding, please find below: - The rules for subs in bumps are outlined by the rules, screenshotted below: [image: image.png] This is final, so any individuals in the first/second division will not be allowed a sub for immovable sporting commitments. You should plan your crew compositions accordingly, if you are aware one of your rowers is going to Henley. - Regarding the rule: Michaelmas and Lent terms no boat may paddle below Baits Bite Lock between 8.30am and 1.00pm or after 4.30pm on any week day. The reason for this rule is so that disruption to local residents is reduced at periods of time when the river upstream of baitsbite is quiet. In the evening the limitation is to ensure no-one comes back after lighting up. Please remember that to get the swiftest reply, direct emails to committee and not individual committee members. If the matter is more confidential/personal please do direct questions/emails to individual members, but be mindful that a reply may take longer. In two and a half weeks' time, on Sunday 8th May, the St. Radegund Boat Club will be running the "Radegund Mile-and-a-bit" event on the Cam - a 2 km head-race suitable for all types of rower. It will run from the A14 bridge to the Railway Bridge. You can enter any class or type of human-powered boat, but not all classes are eligible for prizes. Entry is ?10 per seat. Coxes are free, because we're really quite keen on boats not crashing into things, and anyway it's fun to listen to them shouting stuff. Prizes: This year, in a break with tradition, the club have managed to have the prizes delivered BEFORE the event! They are the rather handsome engraved hip-flasks below: [image: image.png] Hip-flasks will be awarded to all crewmembers in winning entries (including coxes). Categories eligible for prizes will be announced in the provisional starting-order one week before the event, and confirmed in the final starting-order two days before the event. Oh, and if you still haven't picked up your prizes from last year yet, please do let us know! Details are on our website ( https://radbc.org.uk/the-radegund-mile/ ) or if you're in a hurry to enter, then the entry-form is available directly here: https://forms.gle/FGZKuoNDxFPsbgcJA Meanwhile, remember to put the date in your diaries!
