Dear Captains,

Entries for the 'Smaller Boats Regatta' SBR 2021
<http://www.cucbc.org/regatta/25> are now open, with races planned to take
place in the afternoons (13:00-17:30) of Monday 7th, Wednesday 9th,
Thursday 10th and Friday 11th June. As discussed at the Captains' meeting,
this is going to be an event for both 4s and small boats, racing
side-by-side over the Pembroke Regatta Course, with the exception of
the Novice 1x categories, which will race over their usual 500m course
side-by-side on the Reach.
We are aware that the dates for the Eights Regatta which were
initially proposed are now due to clash with a significant number of Tripos
examinations. We are in the process of communicating with the Senior Tutors
to establish whether we would be allowed to run the VIIIs regatta while
exams are still ongoing or not, and will update Captains when we know more.

Entries for the SBR should be made via captains using the CUCBC website
<https://www.cucbc.org/regatta/enter>.
The eligibility criteria for the 4s and small boats events are
available online here <https://www.cucbc.org/handbook/racing/uni_fours> and
here <http://www.cucbc.org/handbook/racing/sbr> respectively; I've provided
a summary below. As usual for the SBR, we will do our
best to accommodate competitors who want to enter 2 events (e.g. both 1x
and 2x), but please note that 3 or more events for a single competitor is
unlikely to be possible. We reserve the right to combine categories if
there are fewer than four entries in any particular event.

The deadline for entries to the SBR, including payment, is Monday 17th May
at 23:45. Entry Fees are £10 for all single scull races, £16 per double
or pair, and £25 per four. Entry fees can be paid by bank transfer only
(Account name: Cambridge University Combined Boat Club; Account number:
00008487; Sort code: 72-00-06). Please use a sensible payment reference
that will allow us to match your payment to your college/entry.

Please note that competing crews will be expected to provide marshals (via
their clubs) to ensure the smooth and safe running of races. Failure to
provide marshals as required will result in the
automatic scratching/disqualification of the relevant competing crew.
More specific details will be available once we have a list of entries
and are able to put together a racing timetable.

*Categories and Eligibility*
Here is a brief overview of the different categories that are available to
enter. We will combine events where necessary if there are insufficient
numbers of entries in any given category.

Coxed Fours (First Division) - open to all.
Coxed Fours (Second Division) - for second fours, i.e. you should have (at
least) a separate 1st four or 1st eight competing this term. The only
exception is if your 1st boat is in the third division (or lower) of both
Mays and Lents. Blues, half-blues, Blondie/Goldie colours and Trial caps
cannot enter this division, nor can any boat containing two or more 1st
Mays colours.

The Small boats fall broadly into three levels of competition:
'Championship' events: Delafields (W1x), Colquhouns (M1x), Magdalene (M2-,
W2-) - open to all.
'Intermediate' events: Fairbairn Junior (M1x, W1x), Lowe (M2x, W2x,
Mixed2x), Forster-Fairbairn (M2-, W2-) - Blues, half-blues, Blondie/Goldie
colours and Trial caps cannot enter, nor can previous winners of each
respective event.
Novice events - Peter Brandt (M1x) and Maiden Sculls (W1x) - open only to
those who have never before competed in a sculling race. Blues, half-blues,
Blondie/Goldie colours and Trial caps cannot enter.

If you have any questions, please let me know. You may get a faster
response if you cc the rest of the committee as well!

Best wishes,
Matthew
