Only one change has been done, in regards to Novice Fairbairns, where clarification has come that "not planning to totally cancel novice Fairbairns at the moment, provided there is some possibility of getting novices on the river this term and them being able to safely race" Apologies about the delay in distributing the survey, please find the link below. Please remember that the results will stay within the captain's group and the quality of the results is directly related to the survey responses received. https://forms.gle/b11BxzdsEuNrYFvdA I shall distribute the results next Saturday evening or until all clubs have responded, whichever is sooner. We will circulate notice of the next Captain's meeting which is still timetabled for the first 2 weeks of MT, however please do communicate between yourselves and let us know if a meeting is needed sooner. Any issues with the survey, please let me know. All best, Limeng -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... CUBC women are hosting development squad ergos online this term to fit in with current restrictions. Dev squad is aimed at current Cambridge students that wish to trial next year for the Boat race squad. To take part there is a minimum ergo standard just to ensure dev squad athletes are realistic future candidates for the Boat Race. These standards are: Openweight women 2k sub 7:44 and Lightweight women 2k sub 8. Alternatively a 1k rate capped at 24 would work as a test of fitness/power and the scores should be half that of the 2k free rate (3:52/4:00). To take part athletes will need an ergo, headphones, and a way to use zoom (so phone/laptop with internet access) so coaches can see them rowing and provide feedback. Sessions will be every other Thursday at 4pm and 5pm, starting this Thursday 15th October and athletes need to sign up here. There are limited numbers to allow for a decent amount of feedback so please limit to two sessions per athlete this term, unless there is still space available the day before in which case athletes can attend more. If it is oversubscribed I'll add more sessions. Coxes interested in trialling can also join the sessions and listen to technical feedback given to athletes. Just send me an email with name, college, experience level and why you want to trial next year. Agenda * Constitution/Rule changes - University Club (see below) * Approval of appointed officers * Presentation of accounts * Rule change proposed by King's Women - Tubs (see below) * Opportunity for remote novice coxes' briefing * Opportunity to discuss survey results / feedback / any issues arising * Reminders * Early Morning Marshals * Update information page [1] on CUCBC website with details of new captains/committee * Coxswain face coverings & eye protection * Clubs going out in VIIIs should be mindful that many clubs are using more small boats * Lights within 15' of lighting up/down If anyone has any other business they wish to raise, please email committee at cucbc.org. Proposed Rule and Constitution changes - Wording around University Club(s) As many of you will be aware, CUWBC, CULRC and CUCBC have now merged into a single 'Cambridge University Boat Club'. We need to update some phrases in our constitution and rule-book to reflect this merger. The proposed changes detailed below are intended to be purely cosmetic (mostly replacing 'CUBC, CUWBC and the CULRC' with 'the University Boat Club') and so should (I hope) be able to be agreed with a single vote (i.e. not clause-by-clause). The proposed changes to the Constitution have already been approved by the Senior Committee prior to being put to a vote of Captains, as required by Section 19 of our Constitution here [2]. CUCBC constitution [3]: Change 3. from That the CUCBC shall be composed of the Captains of each of the constituent College Men's and Women's Boat Clubs together with the Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the three University Clubs, the Honorary Secretary, the Coxswains' Representative and the Honorary Secretaries of each of the CUBC, CUWBC and the CULRC. To That the CUCBC shall be composed of the Captains of each of the constituent College Men's and Women's Boat Clubs together with the four Presidents and four Vice-Presidents of the University Boat Club, the Honorary Secretary, the Coxswains' Representative, and the two Student Secretaries of the University Boat Club. Change 5.c. (That the officers of CUCBC shall be:) from One bona fide in statu pupillari member from each of the CUBC, CUWBC and CULRC. This would currently be the Honorary Secretary of each of these clubs but this could be changed by a duly convened meeting of the individual clubs. To One bona fide in statu pupillari member from the University Boat Club. This would currently be the CUBC Adminstrative Secretary, but this could be changed by a duly convened meeting of the University Boat Club. Change 6.a. from That there be an Executive Committee comprising of the Chairman, the Honorary Secretary, the Coxswains' Representative and the Honorary Secretaries of CUBC, CUWBC and CULRC. This Committee shall have responsibility for organising College rowing on the Cam and shall be led by the Honorary Secretary who is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the committee, College rowing on the River Cam and the organisation of races by the CUCBC. This Committee shall have responsibility for organising College rowing on the Cam and shall be led by the CUCBC Honorary Secretary who is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the committee, College rowing on the River Cam and the organisation of races by the CUCBC. Change 8. From That there shall be a general meeting of the CUCBC during the first two weeks of each term to which all members shall be invited. The meeting at the beginning of the Michaelmas term shall be an Annual General Meeting at which the accounts for the previous years shall be presented and approved and the names of the Officers who shall have been elected by the respective clubs or appointed to the Senior Committee shall be announced and approved. To That all boats (whether going upstream or downstream, and whether rowing or paddling) give way to University crews and Trial Eights, subject to rule 20 and general navigation law. CUCBC Rules of Racing [5]: Change 21.b. from That no person who has rowed in, steered or been a reserve for any of the CUBC, CUWBC or CULRC crews may row or steer respectively below his/her College third May Boat without the permission of the Hon. Secretaries, which shall normally be given only in the case of accident or illness. To That no person who has rowed in, steered or been a reserve for any of the University crews may row or steer respectively below his/her College third May Boat without the permission of the Executive Committee, which shall normally be given only in the case of accident or illness. Change 28. from That no person who has gained first Lent or May Colours or a Trial Cap, or who has rowed in, steered or been a reserve for any of the CUBC, CUWBC or CULRC crews may row or steer in the Getting-on Race UNLESS the Getting-on Race crew concerned is the Club's second or third crew. From That no tub pairs be allowed below Chesterton footbridge except for a race recognised by the CUCBC. It seems like everyone is adapting as best we can to the situation, and it has been great to see so many crews back on the river. I've been in contact before regarding Fairbairns and I am pleased to say that entries for 2020 will open on the 30th October. The races will be held on: Thursday 3rd December: men's and women's novice VIIIs, Friday 4th December: men's and women's senior VIIIs and IVs. Entries will cost ?68 for VIIIs and ?38 for IVs. Payment details are on the entry form. The deadline for entries is 20th November and payment must be completed by the 25th November. This year we will only be accepting entries from clubs based on the Cam to discourage people from travelling into town and there will be no invitational categories. This means no alumni crews will be allowed to race unless all members live in Cambridge and their associated club is willing to host them. We will be doing our best to make the event as safe as possible, and we will expect individual clubs to practice their own safe warmup and boating procedures before each division. Of course, the next couple of weeks will be critical in Cambridge's response to the increase in infections and training is likely to be affected in some way. If government or BR guidelines change meaning the race must be cancelled, we will endeavour to reimburse every entry as much as possible while covering the costs of organising the race. We have also left the payment deadline later than usual to hopefully allow for additional flexibility for scratches due to crews having to isolate. There has been discussion of adding a small boats category to replace some of the novices, but before I can confirm or cancel this, it would be useful to get a better idea of the numbers of novice and senior entries clubs are expecting to enter. We will likely be running smaller divisions to allow for more distancing of crews during marshalling. If you could fill this form with expected entry numbers as soon as possible, I can finalise the divisions we will run: https://forms.gle/H2hDA5GZSPjDHQzC8 I really hope we are able to put on a great race for the whole Cam community. Please do get in touch if you have any further questions or comments. Best, Casey -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I just don't see why every club should make their own, and most of the existing ones I have found are quite out of date. > > Except for using Nines as one of its emergency points, there is no particular reason this map is centered on our club or our use of the river: I have tried to cram in as much as possible. > > This also means that, though I concede the map is quite busy, I am unwilling to cut things, but am open to suggestions to make it look less cluttered, while keeping the same information. The format is going to be a little bit different this year, but we hope it?s still going to be fun and encourage all of your novices to row even more. So save the date ? 22nd November. QErgs is going to be a virtual event this year ? unfortunately, but perhaps predictably, an in-person event will not be possible this year. We are hoping that things will be different this time next year though, which is also the 25th anniversary of QErgs! Instead, we are inviting crews to compete from their own boathouses, colleges, or wherever you can find an erg. We have developed the technology to allow the races to be synchronised, so that crews are in fact racing against each other in real time. A livestream of the crews themselves will be broadcast so that everyone across Cambridge will be able to follow along. The race itself will still be the same: 8 competitors all completing a 500m sprint. We know that not every boat club has the same facilities available and everyone is facing different restrictions at the moment, and we want everyone to be able to compete in QErgs. Crew entry is going to be slightly different as well this year, so that we have some time to work with boat clubs to sort out individual problems as best we can ? internet connections, livestreams, even a place to erg. To begin the process, we?re opening up a club entry form, to be filled out by one member of your boat club. We don?t need final details about exact crews yet, although we are asking for an estimate of how many crews you are aiming to enter when we open crew entry closer to the event. We would also like each boat club to nominate a contact person for us, who ideally knows their boathouse/college/other location pretty well and is reliable. We will then get in contact with them about any issues you may have with being able to run a virtual QErgs from your boathouse and work with them to sort these. Each boat club needs at least one erg available to them, although this doesn?t necessarily have to be in your boathouse. Smaller clubs with less crews are welcome to come to an arrangement with each other, as are clubs sharing boathouses ? please talk to us about this first, as this does also rely on fitting into division times. Club deposit is ?25 per club, which covers the costs of the equipment needed to run a virtual QErgs. This will be deducted from the total cost of crew entry, which we currently estimate will be around ?50 per crew. This also includes t-shirts! We will confirm the cost of crew entry when we have a better idea of how many crews we can expect. Our rules and terms and conditions have been updated to reflect the current situation, in particular in the event of cancellation, and you can find them here. Feel free to follow the QErgs page on Facebook and click going on the event. Please don?t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions ? but for now, here is the club entry form! https://forms.gle/ULG5JT6fnsJ37ZCA9 Best wishes Anna Feest and Sam Amey QErgs Presidents 2020 qcbc-ergs at srcf.net af667 at cam.ac.uk sra44 at cam.ac.uk -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Please let me know any errors/omissions on this, or if you have any questions. A couple reminders: EMM- Rota is available and you won't be reminded to do your EMM slot. Many thanks for highlighting whether the BR guidelines (i.e. cox eye protection) are being followed on the EMM sheet, this is helpful for us. Please can you continue to record this on the EMM sheet. Link to instructions and form are on the minutes. Club information on CUCBC website- Please update this ASAP. Many clubs have outdated information, we need to keep up-to-date records of the Insurance policy. Pester your predecessors if you don't have access. Safety declarations need to be done by your safety officers as well (we will also email re this in due course). I will send around a reminder and will email a voting mechanism for the recently approved rule regarding tub pairs at the start of November, as we need to review this before the 4th. We want as much time as possible to work with individual boat clubs to sort out the technology, software and other issues with running virtual QErgs, so the deadline for club sign-ups is now Monday 2nd November. We also want to reiterate that our aim is above all safety. Our rules reflect this, and we are continuously updating these as the situation and general guidelines change. You can find the current version here. Our current plan involves all rowers socially distanced and following the risk assessments that have already been approved. With regards to physical contact, this applies only in the case of significant accidents. Otherwise, competitors and spectators should always be socially distanced. It should go without saying but we also want to emphasise that no individual should be pressured into competing should they not feel comfortable with it, and furthermore, we will be very flexible with changes to crew line-ups. We want this to be a fun event, not something that becomes an issue and point of contention. We are currently allowing for 60 seconds in between competitors to disinfect the ergs, as this is what the majority of you said was feasible in our earlier survey. However, should you go over 60 seconds while disinfecting, continue cleaning and the extra time will be removed at the end with no penalty. That means that no one should be sacrificing proper sanitisation in order to win. If you have any questions or problems, please please don't hesitate to get in touch. We want as many people as possible to be involved, so hopefully we can work something out for your club (e.g. alternating between two ergs so that there is extra time to clean down each erg). Again, please sign up as soon as possible. We need advance commitment on whether your boat club wants to take part, so that we can work with each of you individually to create a solution that is safe and reliable. We have a lot of backup solutions and alternatives ready to build something bespoke for you and your crews. This should be an event that is both enjoyable and safe. Here is the link to the club entry, and you can also follow our QErgs Facebook page and event to stay up to date and build the excitement!
