Due to the new lockdown measures, we have decided to postpone QErgs. This is unfortunate and obviously not what we would have wanted, but within the new restrictions we cannot run the event as planned, even virtually, on 22nd November. This is not, however, a cancellation. We?re still hoping to run the event as soon as possible when safe and legal to do so. We will keep you updated on this, but we are currently envisioning an event held in Lent term. QErgs is about encouraging new rowers to carry on with the sport that we all love and for everyone to have fun, and we will do our best to plan for a date when these aims can be achieved. We were very excited about QErgs, but this is not the end. We hope to see you all back on the water as soon as possible, and in the meantime, stay safe. I?d like to offer some light at the end of the tunnel, as we are still hoping to run the annual Christmas Head on 5 October. For those that don?t know it, it's a light-hearted race with many crews getting involved with the festive spirit by wearing fancy dress. Entries are invited for all boat classes for clubs based on the Cam (off Cam clubs only be prior agreement). There will be a revised COVID-19 1,800m long course running from Plough Reach to Top Finish (this is the same length as the normal Peter?s Post to Goldie Boat House course, but will make marshalling easier and allow crews to row straight back to their boathouse). We also guarantee refunds if the event is cancelled. A new addition to the event this year is that we aim to have a cable-cam covering the last 100m of the race with footage streamed on Facebook Live. Details are attached and can also be found of here: http://www.cityrc.co.uk/races-we-run/christmas-head/ Please let me know if you have any questions. I realise it?ll be after the end of term and after many of you will probably have left Cambridge, but just an FYI for any people who?ll be staying and wishing to make use of the river (it looks like BR advice will basically revert to what it was before the second lockdown if Cambridge remains in the lowest tier). On weekdays from Monday 7th December to Wednesday 16th December, there will be a navigation restriction of approx. half the width of the river at the Railway Bridge from 08:00 to 18:00 each day. This is to install protective fenders around the new jetty. Outside of these times (i.e. early mornings, evenings, and the weekend of the 12th/13th), the pontoon used for the works will be moored at the P&E, leaving enough room for two eights to pass each other. The whole river may be briefly obstructed whilst the pontoon is moved to and from the Railway Bridge each morning/evening. Hopefully this will minimise disruption to anyone wishing to use the river during this time, whilst allowing the works to be completed before the new year. Given that we will be in Tier 2 after lockdown, we can now confirm that the event will go ahead. A few people have asked if we could extend the entry deadline so that their club can finalise Covid rules / agree participation with college authorities. We are therefore extending the entry deadline to 10pm on Tuesday 1 December. If would, however, be very helpful if you could let me know in advance if you are likely to use this extension. We are also welcoming entries from non-conventional craft such as 16++. Please contact me if you can?t find a suitable equivalent boat class on the entry form. As a reminder crews can be entered here: https://www.droplet.events/christmas-head Competitor instructions are here: http://www.cityrc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Christmas-Head-1.pdf We look forward to seeing you!
