Dear College Captains,

On behalf of Row Britannia, I would like to invite you on Monday morning to join Phil Packer MBE for a photo call on front of Goldie as he launches Row Britannia at Cambridge, and challenges Cambridge's colleges and representative rowing clubs to row 2020 miles on the erg before March 13th and raise much needed funds for Sport Relief.

Your attendance in college stash, or that of a representative, would be greatly appreciated. Phil does understand that it is at very short notice, and is aware that you also have classes to attend, but your help would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Alister

Row Britannia “Call to Action” and challenge for every constituent college of the University of Cambridge

Row Britannia is an inclusive (adaptive sport) mental health, fitness and wellbeing challenge by The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT), for teams throughout the UK to raise vital funds and positive awareness between 12th November 2019 and 13th March 2020.

Every UK university and college, Fire & Rescue Service, Royal Navy Ship, Base & Air Station and British Rowing Club have been invited to enter a team, row 2,020 miles (3,251kms) and raise £3,000 in aid of Sport Relief.

Through an extraordinary collaboration of partner organisations, Row Britannia will provide a UK-wide platform, campaign and event that will bring together universities, colleges, education and sports governing bodies, British Sporting Icons, Mental Health Ambassadors and communities.

The main aim of Row Britannia is to assist in reducing the feeling of isolation and to encourage as many students and staff to take part. Many universities are inviting 2,020 students to row one mile each (indoors) to reach the target and are arranging for pop up rowers to be positioned around universities in different colleges, campuses and faculties.

If the University of Cambridge’s 31 colleges took part and raised £3,000 each, as a university they would raise £93,000 for Sport Relief. If every UK university and college reaches their target, they would raise £1.5million for Sport Relief.

Concurrently, every Vice-Chancellor, Master and college principal has been invited to take on a Leadership Challenge. If they match their student and staff’s £3,000 target, collectively they would raise £1.5million for a collaboration of mental health charities who support students and young adults (including Student Minds, PAPYRUS, The Matthew Elvidge Trust and the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust).

British Sporting Icons including Dame Katherine Grainger, Dame Kelly Holmes and Sir Steve Redgrave are supporting Row Britannia.

Row Britannia are visiting the University of Cambridge on Monday 20th January 2020 and every Boat Club is encouraged to come along to Goldie at 9.30am for a Group Photo of our 31 colleges to raise awareness and to take on the Row Britannia Challenge.

With best wishes,

Phil
