I have heard from a good number of you since my email on the 27th - thank you very much to those who have got back to me so far. I just wanted to remind those I haven't heard from yet to please get in touch in the next few days with the details of anyone with potential who may be keen to receive some advice/support on training as part of the development squad this year. It will be hugely valuable both for the CUBC and colleges to keep as many talented athletes as possible developing over the next few months as we look ahead to the start of next season. I intentionally haven't prescribed specific erg score standards as I appreciate that there will be talented young people out there who were beginners this year and may not have done significant amounts of erg training or testing. If in doubt as to whether someone is of the calibre we are looking for please just send through their details anyway and I can make an assessment of the wider group as a whole. I look forward to hearing from you. This is to gauge interest for a VIRTUAL BUMPS event in aid of the NHS/COVID-19 effort from the 10-13 of June. Details are still to be worked out and we?d hope that we could organise this as a cross college effort, with input from every boat club. Rough event format: -colleges enter crews of 8+Cox in the normal bumps format -on each day of bumps, each member of the crew runs the bumps distance, starting from a virtual start cannon. -the captains submits the times of each crew, which will be added up to provide an overall time for each crew. -the times will be ranked in a bumps style chart at the end of each day, giving crews a college to compete against the next day. Charity effort: to run parallel to this is a charity competition in aid of the covid effort (exact charity tbc). A donation page will be set up and live for the 4 days of ?bumps?. Those donating will have the option to select which college they donate in the name of. The amount donated will also be ranked in a bumps style chart. Alumni involvement For alumni/those unable to find a crew we would hold a run X distance donate X amount to your college competition to increase involvement. The aims of this event is to give everyone something to aim for in their training over the next few weeks with the focus on participation, and to raise as much as we possibly can for the NHS effort. Hopefully with large college involvement this could have the potential to raise a significant amount. Please forward this email on to your clubs, any ideas or suggestions welcome! We hope to make more detailed plans in the coming weeks with people getting involved and input from other colleges (eg will need things like someone to run large scale social media, anyone with experience at website creation) at the moment this is just to gauge interest and to allow people to submit their ideas, and as a motivation to keep fit! My email is ph502 at cam.ac.uk, please do contact me with any suggestions or if you would like to be further involved.
