Emma sprints is a great way to introduce your novices to racing in a fun,
relaxed environment! Every crew will have at least two races. We anticipate
a good turnout and with the standard fancy dress, mince pies, and exciting
racing; this event is not to be missed! Division winners will receive free
tickets to Emma Cocktails.



Standard safety rules apply: heel restraints in place, life jackets for
coxes, and correctly fitted bow balls, and we reserve the right to turn
away any crew we deem 'unsafe' with no refund of entry fee.

celebrate the victories of) their novice crews.  Unlimited alcoholic
cocktails and non-alcoholic mocktails, and some live music all for only
?10.  Tickets can be purchased via the cocktails page here:

Hi all,

Please could you pass this information onto your LBC's.

Attached is the final draw for tomorrow, you should have all seen this 
already, but if there are any last minute issues please let us know 
asap.

Also attached is a copy of the rules. It is very important that you 
print out this form and bring it signed along with you on the day.

Please arrive no later that 45 minutes before your division time. Enter 
Queens' via the porters lodge on Silver Street, and there will be signs 
directing you to the Bowett room, where you need to register.

Thank you all so much for signing up- there are over 100 boats 
registered so it should be a lot of fun, and we can't wait to see you 
all there!!

This is just a final reminder that Emma Sprints *entry closes on **Sunday
17th at 16:00!* There are very few spaces left so sign up to better your
chances of getting all of your boats into the draw.

In case anyone isn't aware, Emma Sprints is taking place on Sunday 24th
November and is the first race of the novice calendar. This is a great way
to introduce your novices to racing in a fun atmosphere, with bribes for

There is only one week left to enter this year's Fairbairn Cup!

Individual shields will be awarded as prizes to all winners in both the 
Women's and Men's divisions of all the following categories: Senior 1st 
VIII+, Senior 2nd VIII+, Invitational VIII+, Novice 1st VIII+, Novice 
2nd VIII+, Senior 1st IV+, Invitational IV+.

**There will be a novice coxes meeting on Sunday 24th
November in Clare College (Riley Auditorium) at 19:30, following on from 
the Clare Novices Regatta meeting. This is mandatory for all novice 
coxes wanting to take part in Fairbairns**

The races will take place on (division and marshalling times on the 
website):
Thursday 5th December: Men's and Women's Novice VIIIs
Friday 6th December: Men's and Women's Senior College and Invitational 
VIIIs and IVs

Entry fees are ?66 for an VIII and ?38 for a IV. Entries are made via

Dear Captains,

Thank you for your entries into CNR this year. There has been very high
demand for places, and unfortunately we have now reached the boat limit.

However, many crews have contacted us to ask to be considered in case of
crew scratching. For this reason, we will be running a 'reserve list'. If
you did not get a place, and would like to be put on the reserve list,
please email claregatta at gmail.com with details of college, crew (NM1, NW1
etc.) and contact details, and you will be added to the reserve list.

Crews with confirmed entry have until 23:59 this Friday to pay for entry
(details on the Clare Boat Club website). You place will be held, subject
to a late fee, until Sunday evening at which point it will be given to a
reserve crew.

In the event of crews scratching, reserve crews given a place will be
contacted about payment at a later date, but will not be subject to an
increased late fee. Crews that do need to scratch after the payment
deadline will be given a refund so long as their place can be filled.

Please remind your coxes that the coxes meeting is on Sunday 24th November
in the Riley Auditorium, Memorial Court, Clare College at 19:30 and is
compulsory for all competing coxes to attend. The Fairbairns coxes meeting
is immediately after the CNR presentation in the same venue.

Dear All,

This morning there was a collision between two crews at the Ditton 
crossover, which caused significant damage to boats and which had the 
potential to have caused serious injury to rowers. With the mornings 
getting busier, and with more novice traffic getting further downstream 
each week, please ensure all of your coxes and coaches are aware of the 
following:

1) You MUST give way to crews travelling upstream (back towards town) at 
the two crossovers, Ditton Corner and the Gut.

2) If you are travelling upstream at the crossovers, please be vigilant 
and satisfy yourselves that the river is definitely clear before 
committing to changing sides.

3) Novices (and seniors) get it wrong sometimes. If you're impeded, 
better give the other crew space to sort themselves out than try to 
barge through anyway, get entangled, and make it worse for yourselves 
and everyone else around.

4) There's always a queue on the way home. Everyone isn't sitting beside 
the bank just to enjoy the scenery. Don't be THAT boat, the one that 
blithely rows past everything until it nearly has a head-on collision 
with a boat heading downstream, causing you to cut abruptly into the 
queue and get tangled up, meaning everyone is delayed. If you NEED to 
get back urgently (as in, medical need, not 9.00 lecture panic, everyone 
has that) then please proceed cautiously past the queue and warn people 
what you're doing.


Two weeks to go until Fairbairns, please keep your eyes open and play 
nicely...

else you will not be allowed to race.

The first division is to marshal on plough reach at 8:10AM, all other
divisions crews should marshal at stourbridge common (opposite the P&E).
Crews should be banked up by their marshaling time.

I just wanted to make clear on the row through sheet for CNR, please only
put your crew down once for a row through DOWNSTREAM. Row throughs upstream
are much less disruptive between divisions, so please can crews remove
their names of they have been put down twice (once for each way) so other
crews may row through if required.

Please ensure for the row back upstream you arrive at plough reach a few
minutes behind the last racing crews, so that there is no delay.

I'm aware the list is very much full, so I'm hoping by removing repeated
crews there should be more opportunity for crews to row this Saturday.

Dear all (Entry form contacts and CUCBC captains),

There is now one week until the Fairbairn Cup 2019!

I attach the second draft of the provisional Start Order (also updated 
on the website). I have made any adjustments requested (as of this 
morning), where I judged them to be reasonable. Please again check 
carefully that all your crews are included, and that any adjustments 
necessary for availability/boat sharing have been made.

If you have any further requests for adjustments, please make them using 
the adjustment form (https://forms.gle/81bWBL73cjd429Py9) by the end of 
Saturday 30th November. Please use the race numbers from this draft of 
the start order when making new requests. The final start order will be 
released on Sunday 1st December, and after this point only urgent 
changes will be made.

A reminder that there is no overtaking before Chesterton footbridge 
(rule 13a), with penalty of disqualification. If you believe that your 
crew will catch the one in front before Chesterton footbridge (with a 
standard 30 second starting interval), then please ensure you fill in 
the adjustment request form.

As detailed on the website, boats 1-10 in each division must marshal 30 
minutes before the division start time, while the rest must marshal 20 
minutes beforehand.

The payment and scratching deadline (for full reimbursement) is tomorrow 
(Friday 29th November). A number of clubs have still not paid - please 
ensure you pay by this date if you still wish to race.

Finally, morning outings and pre-paddles are permitted before the races 
(Thursday 5th and Friday 6th December). However, the river will be 
closed from 8.30 am to allow crews time to marshal before the start of 
the morning divisions. Please ensure your crews are back in good time.

Again, please forward this onto any relevant captains and coaches.

Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Renting a IV+

Dear Captains,

Pembroke and Darwin have entered a men's alumni IV into Fairbairn's,
however, all of our boats are used by current Pembroke students in the race.
If your boat club has a IV+ which we could rent for Thursday morning (5/12)
and Friday afternoon (6/12), please get in touch!

Dear Captains,

Christ's College Boat Club are looking for 1 to 2 more rowers to join us on our annual training camp to lake Aiguebelette<https://goo.gl/maps/4SuBgvLGYheVgXxp7> in France.

We will be leaving early morning on the 5th of January from Cambridge and return in Cambridge on the morning of the 11th.
