The Getting-On Race will be held at 17:30 on Friday 7th June. It?ll be a single division. Please see http://www.cucbc.org/mays/gor <http://www.cucbc.org/mays/gor> for marshalling instructions.

Also, a reminder of the scratch deadlines, and to keep pre-orders for Bumps programmes coming in: pre-order form <https://forms.gle/vWd31aMCnb4CvCn49>

The pre-Bumps Captains' meeting will be held at 17:00 in Emmanuel college. We?ve allocated an hour to allow time for rule changes proposed after the start of term Captains? meeting. I?ll send the proposals out tomorrow.

Apologies, I should of course have said "The pre-Bumps Captains' meeting will be held at 17:00 in Emmanuel college next Sunday 9th June?. What use is the time without the date?!

Also, just to clarify, we haven?t yet set the exact number of men?s / women?s crews in the M6/W5 division, but we will announce the number of places for each after the scratch deadline has passed on Thursday 6th June.

Dear All,

Attached is the 12-outing declaration for the Mays, which needs to be 
completed and returned to me by the end of Thursday 6th June. Later 
submissions will cause problems with setting the number of crews/spaces 
in the GoR so please be prompt. 1 form per club please, covering both 
men and women. No need to physically print/sign/scan the form, just 
complete in Word and send it back to me.

Outings before 9.00 on weekdays and at any time on the weekend count as 
1 outing, those taking place after 9.00 on weekdays may count as 1.5. 
Races (including the GoR itself for those taking part) count as 1 
outing. Only outings in VIIIs count.

I'm pragmatic about subs / crew changes / injuries etc., but please let 
me know about any coxes who have not personally managed 12 sessions and 
what their prior experience is.

If you have a crew who will not have managed to complete 12 sessions 
before Friday, but think you have a compelling reason that they ought to 
be allowed to race, then please let me know. Having bad luck with the 
weather and difficulty scheduling outings during exam season is not a 
good reason though!

Thanks to everyone who has signed up for Umpiring! I?ll start compiling the rota tomorrow, so if anyone hasn?t yet signed up and has been thinking about doing so, today?s the day to do it!

I?ll also be taking the number of signups from each club at the end of today as the number used to calculate the marshals rota allocations, so if you want an easier time organising marshals, now is the time to encourage friends in your club to sign up.

Dear all,

I've been asked by the Conservators of the River Cam to remind you (and in
particular coxes, coaches, bank parties, and steerspersons) of your
responsibility to avoid collisions with wildlife, and in particular to be
aware of the cygnets and ducklings that are now moving about on the river.

Whilst adult swans and ducks are quite good at moving out of the way of
rowing boats, the same is not true of their offspring.

The nests on Grassy corner and at the Railway Bridge both have cygnets now,
and both families are moving up and down the river, so you need to exercise
caution at all times to make sure you spot them and take the necessary
precautions to avoid collisions. This includes stopping a piece if a
collision is imminent.

A reminder that the deadline for forms is today, and I'm missing a few. 

I don't want a flurry of panicked responses from lots of people just in case nobody else in your club has done it yet. If you are submitting a declaration, you MUST check the outing logs for each and every crew, and be personally satisfied that they have met the training requirements.

The division split for M6/W5 for the 2019 May Bumps will be as follows:

There will be 6 crews in M6, starting from stations 1-6, racing to top
finish.
There will be 9 crews in W5, starting from stations 10-18, racing to bottom
finish.

Information about tomorrow's Getting-on Race is available here:

There are 13 men's and 13 women's crews in the GoR, each competing for 10
places on the river.

The river will be closed from 5-7pm for the GoR. Instead of the usual
evening hours, there will be a single combined men's and women's hour from
7-8pm.

Finally, a quick reminder of the pre-bumps meetings in the QB Lecture
Theatre in Emmanuel college this Sunday, 9th June:
Captains 5-6pm
Umpires 6-6:30pm
Senior coxes 6:30-7pm
Novice coxes 7-7:45pm

And that the deadline for pre-ordering bumps programmes is 5pm tomorrow
(Friday).

Apologies for the delay in releasing the results of yesterday's getting-on
race. We are currently investigating a remarkable number of reports of
unauthorised members of crews across multiple clubs, and we believe it is
best to resolve this before publishing the results.

Thank you for your patience - I appreciate that it is an anxious wait for
your lower boats to find out if they have got on, and we are working to
resolve this issue as fast as we can.

Dear all,

We have received a report that the pump-out station on Jesus Green has
blocked up and overflowed into the Cam. While it currently does not appear
to be overflowing any further, we believe that at least some sewage entered
the river this morning.

There isn't really anything we can do about this, short of setting a red
flag, but I strongly recommend that every college club takes the following
precautions as a minimum:

1. No small boats to go out this weekend.
2. All boats and blades to be thoroughly washed down after every outing,
ideally with some sort of antiseptic or detergent.
3. All rowers and coxes to thoroughly wash their hands, arms and faces
immediately after every outing, and definitely before eating or drinking
anything.

Stay healthy, and good luck with the last weekend of training before bumps!

Dear all,

The Marshals Rota has been updated for Mays 2019 based on the number of
crews you?ve entered and the number of umpires who?ve signed up from your
club.

http://www.cucbc.org/mays/marshals

Marshals should be competent enough to understand how bumps works and
what's going on. Generally, this means they should have competed in at
least one set of Bumps before. Failure to provide marshals as allocated
will result in fines, escalating for repeat offences.

Clubs are welcome to swap slots if it is more convenient, if this happens
please email the committee, copying in the captains of both clubs, so we
can update the rota.

Finally, a reminder of the pre-Bumps Captains Meeting at 17:00 this
evening, in the QB Lecture Theatre in Emmanuel college.

   - A crew had a bump disallowed today since they bumped by rowing into a
   stationary boat at race pace. Do not row into stationary crews.
   - Row home sensibly: maintain normal navigation and do not attempt
   unsafe crew swapping.
   - Bank parties: when not moving, please step off the towpath and keep it
   clear - both after your crews have bumped out and on the way down to the
   start.
   - Tomorrow the towpath will be very busy, particularly for the later
   divisions. Cyclists must watch where they are going and spectators should
   be on the grass, not the path.
   - Bank parties are strictly limited to four. This includes boatmen,
   college masters, alumni, VIPs, and anyone else. Crews with excessive bank
   parties may not be allowed to start the race.
   - Captains: please make sure your club knows that supporters should not
   run alongside the race. This is very dangerous and will be fined as an
   excessive bank party.
   - Remember that everything is two hours earlier on Saturday!

The 2019 Michell Cup, awarded by CUCBC for the best overall performance during the year, was won by Caius.

The 2019 Pegasus Cup, awarded by Milton Brewery for the best overall performance in the May Bumps, was won by Clare Hall.

Our congratulations to both clubs!

Dear all,

The minutes from the pre-bumps Captains' meeting are attached. The proposed
rule changes were all accepted with some very minor amendments - the
website will be updated accordingly before the start of next term.

A quick plea to outgoing captains: please ensure that your CUCBC email and
CUCBC website account log-ins are transferred to your successors, and that
they are checking their email for any announcements before the start of
next term.

For crews are training over the summer: the flag will not be operational,
please do remember to check the calendar for details of other events
happening on the Cam, and remember that all the usual navigation rules
apply.

Good luck to everyone competing at Henley and at any other regattas over
the long vacation!

Hi,

Tomorrow and Thursday you should plan to take the 5.55 train from Cambridge
to Ely, where you will be picked up and driven to the boathouse. We will do
two runs in order to collect everyone. I think we have everyone's train
pass, but please let me know if you don't have one.

For future afternoon sessions, come in the same time slot that you attended
today.

On Saturdays and Sundays plan to leave Goldie by minibus at 07.00.

Finally, I'm attaching the list of warm up exercises that we introduced
tonight. I recommend that you watch the videos to further familiarise
yourself with them.
