Dear all,
We have received some more information about the works to construct the
new bridge over the river for the Chisholm Trail
(https://www.greatercambridge.org.uk/transport/transport-projects/chisholm-trail/).
Due to noise restrictions, the planned work will be taking place during
"normal working hours", i.e. not at night.
The phases of work are dredging (to provide enough depth for their
working pontoon), removal of the old jetty, sheet piling, tubular piling
(for the new jetty), installation of the new jetty, and the bridge lift.
The work will entail restricted navigation and some river closures. The
restrictions will be a boomed area at the P&E where they will mobilise
plant machinery, and a boomed area around the working zone under the
railway bridge which will restrict the navigation to no more than half
the width of the river. River closures will be entailed when plant
machinery is being moved to and from the working area, and for some
operations, for example, installation of the middle section of the
jetty.
We believe the Council is still negotiating with the Conservancy over
the timetable for these works, but they could start from Monday 5th
August. We will update Captains before the start of the Michaelmas term
with any likely impact on navigation during the University Term, but in
the meantime, if any college crews are planning outings during August or
September, please be aware of the possibility that the river downstream
of the P&E may be closed without notice at times during the day.
Best wishes,
Matthew
