From jcbc-fbsecretary at jcsu.jesus.cam.ac.uk Sun Dec 1 10:54:37 2019 From: jcbc-fbsecretary at jcsu.jesus.cam.ac.uk (Matthew Feuer - Fairbairn Cup Secretary 2019) Date: Sun, 01 Dec 2019 10:54:37 +0000 Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Fairbairn Cup - Final Start Order Message-ID: <56725273ca28a02aa294d74ece495037@cam.ac.uk> Dear all (Entry form contacts and CUCBC captains), I have attached the final version of the start order (also updated on website). The race numbers and order in this version of the start order should remain the same for racing. Please let me know by email any further scratches/withdrawals from racing, but unfortunately I will no longer be able to offer reimbursement. The deadline for adjustments to the start order has now also passed, but let me know any urgent requests for increased time gaps. All the race details are on the website (https://www.fairbairns.jesusboatclub.co.uk), including marshalling times and details, course maps, finish positions etc. There is also a Coxes Notes document that I would recommend all coxes and Novice bank parties read. Race numbers can be collected from the balcony of Jesus Boathouse on both Thursday and Friday. There will be a control desk dedicated to this task from 07:30 - 09:30 on both days, but if you can't make these times please come and collect them between any division. Each club's race numbers will be placed into one envelope for collection (including all crews, both on Thursday and Friday). If you want separate envelopes for different crews or for Novice and Senior crews please let me know before Wednesday. Please follow the facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/492394871347493/) for any information and announcements during the races. Let me know any further questions Good luck in the races! This is just a gentle reminder that even if you are on your first run down to the lock this doesn't guarantee that there isn't someone heading back into Cambridge as they finish their outing since town crews are not restricted by the time of lighting down. Typical areas for collisions are: overtaking on the wrong side past the Cantabs boathouse, crews going very wide/overtaking under the Green Dragon without a coach to confirm the river is clear, crews overtaking at the pinch point just downstream of the P&E, crews committing to an overtake just upstream of the Railway bridge (i.e. before you can check the reach is clear of oncoming traffic) I very much appreciate that training time is increasingly curtailed by daylight and river traffic, but broken boats and injured rowers will be a much bigger barrier to successful racing than an extra few seconds behind someone before starting an overtake. Please could you pass on to your crews that overtaking should only be carried out if they can first confirm that there isn't someone coming the other way, rather than just assuming that no-one will be there. Best wishes for the last few days of training, racing and most importantly - BCDs! Isabel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This lent term PCBC will be completing a 12 hour charity ergathon. It would be great if any other clubs would be interested in joining in and making it a race. If so please read the email below for details. Best wishes, Jenny -- Jenny Hill PCBC Captain 2019-20 captain at pembrokecollegeboatclub.com [1] Dear Boat Club Captains, Hope your holidays are going well! Next term Pembroke is completing a 12 hour Ergathon, and we would love for other colleges to join us in some friendly competition! The format would be a race over the 12 hours to cover as much distance as possible. One erg would have to be kept spinning at all times, but colleges could use up to four ergs at any point. There will not be one location for the event; i.e. each college will be responsible for booking a space and organising their own set-up. Pembroke has the tech for recording and sharing distance from ergs (used in past events like this) and we'd be happy to share this with participating colleges if it will help. We will be raising money for the Jo Cox studentship and would encourage other participating colleges to collect donations either for the same or a different charity of their choosing. It would be great to meet up with any colleges that are interested at the start of next term. Please let me know if that might include your boatclub and do send any questions, concerns, suggestions etc to me directly (dls56) or through Jenny.
