From conor at cucbc.org Mon Aug 12 13:25:14 2019 From: conor at cucbc.org (Conor Burgess) Date: Mon, 12 Aug 2019 14:25:14 +0100 Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Fwd: Chisholm Trail and Abbey-Chesterton Bridge Update In-Reply-To: <17205502.19@public.govdelivery.com> References: <17205502.19@public.govdelivery.com> Message-ID: Dear all, Following on from Matthew's earlier email, the Jetty under the Railway Bridge closed today, ready for the piling works to start next week. Please ensure that all of your crews (and in particular any singles / doubles / pairs / coxless IVs and Quads) are aware that during these piling works there will likely be a barge under the railway bridge blocking up to half of its span. We expect there to be someone on duty to assist with river traffic whenever the barge is in place, as it will only be wide enough for one boat at a time. We're currently expecting this phase of the work to be completed by the start of Michaelmas. Best wishes, Conor ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Greater Cambridge Partnership Date: Mon, 12 Aug 2019 at 13:32 Subject: Chisholm Trail and Abbey-Chesterton Bridge Update To: Piling works from 19 August View as a webpage [image: greater cambridge partnership] [image: Abbey Chesterton Bridge artist impression] Piling works start soon for Abbey-Chesterton bridge Works will take place from 19 August 08:00- 18:00 Monday to Friday We would like to update you on Chisholm Trail, a mostly off road north-south strategic foot and cycleway through Cambridge and plans for the Abbey-Chesterton bridge. Phase One, which will open up private green areas and link Stourbridge and Coldham?s Commons is currently under construction. As you will be aware from our previous message, the jetty under the railway bridge will be closed from today through to Summer 2020. Works also involve the partial closure of the river and, potentially, full closure of the river to all access for short periods. These closures are needed in order to create a safe working environment for piling and construction of the bridge base as well as replacement of the jetty. Works will involve heavy machinery and some noise is anticipated. We can now confirm that piling works will take place from 19 August until October. Works will only take place during the day time 08:00-18:00 from Monday to Friday. Please note that the piling works will not be continuous through this period. Works noise and vibration will be closely monitored throughout construction to ensure they do not breach acceptable limits. Nearby residents are being informed of the piling works by letter. We?ve received further details from the contractors carrying out the works at the Railway Bridge for the new Chisholm Trail Bridge. They expect to start carrying out piling from the bank from 2nd September. This will not impact navigation initially. From Monday 9th September - Friday 13th September, 08:00-18:00, expect the river to be partially closed to 50% of its width. When this is the case, they?will provide floating buoys around the works, signage up and downstream and bankmen up and down stream to let river users know what is occurring. Please cooperate with them to pass safely through the works. From Monday 16th September - Friday 20th September and Monday 23rd September - Friday 27th September, 08:00-18:00, the river will need to be completely closed to all traffic at some times. When this is the case, they?will provide a boom across the river with signage denoting the river is closed, plus signage further up and downstream and banksmen up and downstream to let people know what is occurring. They will not be fully closing the river past 18.00 nor?before 08.00, however there may be 50% navigation restrictions outside those times, as well as between 08:00 and 18:00 (when the river isn?t closed completely), in which case they?ll have the same provisions as the 50% closure above. Again please cooperate with the banksmen to pass through safely when not completely closed. They assure us that River closures will be kept to a minimum at all times. We?ll keep you up to date with any schedule changes that may occur as soon as we hear about them. Best wishes, Conor -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
