The coach who has a licence has just pulled out at the last minute and our other coach isn't licenced - so if we don't find a driver for the launch, the whole of camp is pointless! If anyone (student, coach, boatman, whoever) is free next week and fancies saving my life/being our eternal saviour I would really appreciate it. Everything would be provided for your staying in Norwich (accommodation, food, transport etc) and you'd be paid for your time as well. Further details are below, please distribute to all those who might be interested and have a look at our FB event: Date: 22nd April Time: 11.00 - 12.00 Location: CRT, Downing College Boathouse Event Details: "How to use the rowing tank to optimise rowing effiency" https://www.facebook.com/events/1798942390400744/ "We are delighted to invite you to a discussion with Jim Dreher, founder and owner of the Durham Boat Company, who supplied the Cambridge Rowing Tank to Downing. Jim was a successful rower and mechanical engineer who has over 30 years experience building tanks and other rowing equipment as well as coaching rowing at a senior level. Jim will be joined by Coleen Fuerst who is the President of Durham Boat Company and a former US national champion rower. Coleen is also an engineer and rowing coach." Jim will focus on the potential of the indoor rowing tank as both a learning tool to optimize rowing efficiency and also as a "lab" to learn basic Physics mechanics principles related to both rowing and STEM education. We will have a force measurement analytics system from Peach Innovations installed to allow the theory to be translated into a practical demonstration. Paul Haines who developed the Peach system will be on hand to participate in the discussion. So much of our rowing knowledge is still theoretical. We attach a note from Jim that spells out his understanding of the relationship between physics and rowing. He would welcome feedback at the discussion. -- Alex Fellows Captain of Boats Downing College Boat Club apf36 at cam.ac.uk 07446974685 From matthew at cucbc.org Sun Apr 15 18:37:57 2018 From: matthew at cucbc.org (Matthew Temple) Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2018 18:37:57 +0000 Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Small Boats Regatta, Captains' Meeting, River Closures, Evening Hours Message-ID: Dear all, 1. Message-ID: <011b01d3dadc$5d285160$1778f420$@rawsons.uk> Dear captains/club management, Manchester University BC is looking to hire a men's VIII+ for Henley Royal Regatta, and we think you might be interested. In particular: * Collection after Reading amateur regatta (weekend of 17th June: so after bumps!) * Return some time after Henley * Can arrange collection from Cambridge * We'd like a relatively nice boat: our current first VIII+ is over a decade old and a little "well-used" so we're not too fussy, but obviously we're also not looking to pay money for a rustbucket. 85kg crew average so anything in that ballpark is fine. * Compensation is negotiable depending on what you're offering. Get in contact! * Reply directly if interested or find me on Facebook if you prefer. I happen to know that most of you will have multiple (often very nice indeed!) shells sat in your boathouses all summer after the bumps, so this could be some nice "free money" for your club. Hope to hear from all of you. Michael Rawson PS Best of luck in the bumps. Especially Robinson - yeah 'binson! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... On these two days only, IVs comprising of rowers who would normally be allowed to row in the evening hours will be allowed between Chesterton and Baitsbite Lock, due to the lack of changeover period to enable them to get downstream of Baitsbite lock. Normal rules will apply from Thursday, when eligible IVs may use the changeover period to get downstream of Baitsbite Lock but may not be between Baitsbite and Chesterton during the restricted hours. They?re coached by two of our senior coaches and are a fun but competitive boat, aiming for Bumps. If you have any spare rowers who would consider joining, please get in touch. I?m hoping to get the crew sorted in the next few days - they are currently already going out with subs, but that's only a temporary fix. So any quick replies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
