I would welcome any feedback before the meeting on Tuesday - the sooner I have it the longer I will have to update the proposal before the meeting on Tuesday. There is an explanation with some numbers in the proposal. Since emailing it to Wilf I have been discussing with one or two other clubs, particularly about concerns that the 306 weekly outings might end up being unevenly spread between the five weekdays leading to some days with unacceptably high numbers of boats out (my proposal ensures a maximum average of 61 boats per morning compared to the current theoretical maximum of 66 but does not ensure they are evenly spread). I have considered adding a second restriction, similar to the current "two boat rule", of maximum 3 boats per college per morning to lessen the effect of this. Any comments on that would be welcome. I hope your captaincy is off to a good start and look forward to hearing any comments Adam Men's and overall captain, Emmanuel -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Reminders for College Rowing Lights in the 15? after Lighting Down, and the 15' before Lighting Up. No novice boats on the water before 0730. No coaching from the bank above the railway bridge before 0730. Minimal coxing above the railway bridge before 0730. If your crew needs constant instruction, don?t boat until 0730. Do not boat without PFDs firmly attached to coxes and bow balls firmly attached to boats. No novice boats out in a Yellow Flag. Novice boats must be accompanied by a coach on the bank. Yellow Flag: Boating is restricted to University crews, first VIIIs, men's crews in the top 2 divisions of the May Bumps and women's crews in the top division of the May Bumps as well as first fours and tub pairs. The flag is not a license to boat. If you boat in conditions you cannot handle and get into trouble, Mark will follow it up. Rowing below Baitsbite Lock is restricted to University crews, first boats, and any other boats in the top two divisions of the May Bumps. In Michaelmas and Lent, rowing below Baitsbite is not allowed on any weekday between 0830 and 1300, or after 1630. Play nice. Notices University IVs Uni IVs will run between the 26th October and the 30th October. Entries will open shortly. Lent Bumps You will hopefully be aware that at the end of last year the captains voted to move the Lent Bumps dates from ?the 6th Tuesday to the 7th Saturday of Lent Term? to ?the 7th Tuesday to the 8th Saturday of Lent Term?. Provision was made to reverse this change in years that the Lent Bumps would clash with WEHORR. This year is such a year. The captains voted to avoid the clash with WEHORR, therefore, by my reckoning, the Lent Bumps 2016 will be held between Tuesday 23rd February and Saturday 27th February. Early Morning Marshalling The EMM Rota is currently being updated and uploaded to the CUCBC website. This will be finished by the weekend at the latest. This can all be uploaded via the CUCBC website - any clubs without access should in the first instance contact their outgoing captain/committee for login details. Only then should they contact our webmaster. Would all clubs please login, update insurance information where necessary and check/update contact details. Any club not having done so before 23.59 on Sunday will not be permitted to boat until they have satisfied me that appropriate insurance is in place. Please note that the insurance I need to know about is the Public Liability part of your cover; I'm not the slightest bit interested in what your fleet is worth. I am responsible for, among other things, looking after the accounts and putting together the bills each term. In addition, I act as the ?court of appeal? for fines issued either during term or during Bumps. You should all have received your club?s bill. This has on it any outstanding charges from last term and also acts as a receipt for your May Bumps entries. If you did not receive a bill or have any queries, please let me know. Your bill must be paid in full in addition to your entry fees by the University Fours entry deadline, Friday 16th October. Race entries will not be accepted if your club has an outstanding balance on your account. If your bill shows a negative balance, your account is in credit. Please subtract this credit from any entry fees that you pay. You can pay your bill either by cheque or by bank transfer (BACS). Details of where to send payment are on the bottom of the bill. If you are paying by BACS, you must e-mail me (seniortreasurer at cucbc.org) to confirm the payment. Setting the payment reference in online banking to your club name is also helpful. It is particularly important to e-mail me if the payment is coming from a personal rather than club account, since the payment reference does not always show up on the statement. Any payments not accompanied by an e-mail will be considered generous donations to CUCBC! Wishing you the best of luck for the year ahead. Payment of Race Fees. You can pay both of these via Bank Transfer, or you can send me a cheque (drop off at Porters' Lodge, Great Gate, Trinity College). Without payment, I?m fairly sure the automated draw system on the CUCBC website will just bin your entry. The doodle poll is not strict division times, but I will try and stay as close to them as possible. The main issue I foresee is having to run a particularly large division on Monday or Tuesday. Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection which can cause mild flu like symptoms, but in rare cases can develop into Weil's Disease, which can be life threatening. Rowers and Coxes are at risk of contracting Leptospirosis from the River Cam, especially if river water gets in contact with cuts or is ingested. Rowers are advised to use waterproof dressings on cuts wherever possible, avoid swallowing any river water and to use water bottles with sealable lids (to avoid water in the bottom of the boat coming into contact with the lip/opening of the bottle). For those of you that are interested, King?s -vs- Trinity Hall resulted in a dead heat. Looks like we might have some rain tomorrow so wear appropriate kit etc. Almost all marshals have turned up so far which is great, but there?s very little wiggle room built in if multiple people don?t turn up. Please make sure you organise people to cover the slots, and then remind them that they?re supposed to be there! I don?t want have to start threatening clubs with fines but if people keep choosing not to turn up then I will have to. Can I just take this opportunity to thank the marshals that have turned up this week, especially the ones that have turned up on time. We have spent a lot of time doing nothing due to sparse racing but the races couldn't run without them present. Ultimately we all want to have as fair and as incisive a set of racing as possible; that's certainly why I'm giving up my half term to organise this event. Do make sure we have marshals then for tomorrow! A quick note about the start: the umpire will start the race (with a whistle) if the two start marshals both have their hands down. If your marshal has their hand down and you're not straight, I suggest your bank party politely ask them to raise their hand before the whistle is blown - I can explain to the marshals how the start works as many times as you like but they're still not going to be perfect - they're likely very new to the task! Finally, can I just remind you all that the rules require steady white lights on the bow and stern of your boat. Not flashing lights. Not red lights. Thanks to everybody that?s been flexible in shifting races around and finding extra marshals, allowing us to have as many crews racing as possible instead of scratching. Keep the marshals coming! Best Michael CUCBC Honorary Secretary 2015-2016 PS University Medals will be presented, to the winners of each category, in the King?s College bar at 1830 tomorrow. All crews and supporters are welcome to come and celebrate the successes of the week. Might be a nice thing to wear club blazers to, just saying, you spent ?200 on it so you might as well wear it...
