CCRC will be hosting the Big Weekend, a weekend rowing extravaganza (?) on the Cam. On Sat 2nd May we will host the Spring Head to Head, same format as the Winter H2H but slightly lower risk of hypothermia :) For the colleges, H2H is a great opportunity to see how the competition is shaping up for May Bumps and for the Town clubs, its a fun weekend of good old friendly competition to see what club comes out top. On Sunday 3rd May City Sprints will take place, which is side by side racing in front of the boathouses from Emma to City, approximately 400m. We also have alumni events which isn't reflected in the poster below. It's a hugely popular, fun event and always draws in the crowds. Our usual MCs will be entertaining you with their colourful commentary. New this year for the town clubs, we will have a big weekend cup, which will be awarded to the club with the most points over the 2 events, head and sprint racing, so really showing who is top on the Cam. Please see the poster below and the link to the entry forms. Spring H2H http://goo.gl/forms/83oRg1DOpX City Sprints http://goo.gl/forms/JtmsBRKe08 The City bar will also be open from midday and there will be BBQ and cake stalls open throughout the day. Only two people (including myself) have said that they were available to help with the smooth running of the Small Boat Regatta on Monday. I am afraid that after the very dangerous collision that took place at Uni IV, when the event was ran without enough marshals and umpires, a minimum of 10 people is now required for CUCBC to be able to run the SBR. If you are able to help with SBR on Monday (1-6pm) or on Tuesday (1-6pm) could you please let me know by Thursday midnight? If enough people have signed up by then, I will release a draw and timetable on Friday. If not enough people have signed up then the event will not be ran this year (and payments will be reimbursed). Please note that I am only able to umpire on Monday myself so unless someone is willing to help on both Monday and Tuesday (to get a feel of what needs to be done before having to do it alone), the SBR will not be ran on Tuesday. URL: From stedmunds.captain at cucbc.org Mon Apr 20 19:41:59 2015 From: stedmunds.captain at cucbc.org (Megan Eldred) Date: Mon, 20 Apr 2015 20:41:59 +0100 Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Proposal for changes to CUCBC eligibility rules Message-ID: Dear Captains, I?m writing to you on behalf of the working group for eligibility with an attached proposal that we have created in order to discuss this issue at the coming Captains meeting this Thursday. Below is a summary of this, but please also take the time to read the attached proposal with included specific wording to make some small changes to the eligibility rules in order to accommodate the difficulties some colleges encounter when trying to get boats together, training successfully and safely with the aim of competing in the Bumps. One of the main reasons that the eligibility rules are difficult for colleges such as ours to adhere to is that the nature of college membership and involvement has changed over recent years and the University has a growing population of researchers who are encouraged to immerse themselves in the Cambridge life and have the same College experiences that the students do. Many of such people are at our colleges, and it is a shame that they cannot take part in the Bumps, especially since we struggle to fill our boats sufficiently with students alone. In summary, our suggestion is to include into the rules a clause that allows someone to compete in CUCBC events for a college if they have been elected or appointed by the governing body or council of that college. This could be confirmed in the form of an official member at the college (such as a Senior Treasurer, Bursar, Senior Tutor or Master) signing a statement to this effect. By adding this clause in it would allow Directors of Studies and PostDocs to row (who are very much involved in the college community) but excludes Alumni and Supervisors who are only loosely attached with the college. The current rules concerning these points are found here: http://www.cucbc.org/handbook/racing/general . In particular Rules 1-4 inclusive. The specific wording for our proposed changes to the rules are included at the end of our proposal document. I hope you find the time to read this, as we would very much appreciate your feedback at the coming Captains meeting as to whether you agree or disagree with these proposed changes Regards, Megan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I hope this message makes it way to the right person! I am a yoga teacher, based in Cambridge. I am looking to increase the number of classes I teach and would love to work with the rowers of Cambridge. My yoga training has been very much focussed in anatomy and I am fascinated by how the body, if moved and stretched in the right way can transform lives, and certainly rowing performance! I would work with each club to design a specialised yoga programme which would target the 4 major sections of the stroke, with specific emphasis on the areas of the body that come under extra strain when rowing. The main aims of the practice would be to increase flexibility, balance and power whilst reducing the risk of injury - and win more races! Is this something you might be interested in?
