This means that EVERYONE has to take responsibility to help things keep moving in the morning. *1) Slow warm-ups* It has come to our attention that many crews are insisting on doing slow warm up exercises on the paddle downstream from the boathouses. This causes queues of traffic behind a boat doing arms only exercises. This is a plea to all coaches and coxes. Please avoid slow warm ups and keep your crew rowing at the very very minimum *half crew-half slide*. If you need to do slow exercises please save these for along the Reach where there is more room for other crews to overtake safely. Please be considerate of every other crew on the river when making your training plans. Marshals will be noting anyone holding up other crews unnecessarily. *2) Navigation* Please make sure that your novice coxes are fully aware of the navigation rules (i.e. stay on the right except at the crossover points etc). We've had a number of potentially nasty incidents along the narrow stretches of the river where crews have failed to act before a collision or blade clash. Please act responsibly and safely and *STOP* before steering errors become a potential collision. Coaches in particular, please keep a close eye on your novice coxes and help them out if necessary. It takes a lot longer to disentangle 2 crashed boats than it does to stop rowing, re-position and restart. Also please be considerate of other river users in particular moored residential boats. If you end up rowing into the side of a boat please keep blades off their hull by pulling them in and use the fenders to push off so you do not damage their hull or paintwork. Also please apologise! If you hit a residential boat in the morning you have most likely woken someone up. *3) Spinning* Please keep all spinning to the set spinning areas (i.e. Jesus and Baitsbite locks plus Chesterton and the bottom of the reach). Make sure you do not spin in front on oncoming crews and please *spin quickly* and *get out of the way* once you are round. Sitting in the spinning area just leaves everyone getting fed up and cold! *4) Early morning noise* Our final reminder is to keep quiet in the early mornings. This doesn't just include coaching from the bank before 7:30am but also includes keeping your whole crew quiet while they are getting ready and warming up and keeping the cox box volume low. Oh yeah, and using a megaphone in the morning.... DEFINITELY NO! Tom Grimble CUCBC Honorary Secretary -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... His 98 crew still hold the record for the fastest Boat Race with a time of 16 minutes and 19 seconds. These get progressively earlier throughout the day as we will be aiming to be running around 30 minutes ahead of time by the last division in order to avoid crews rowing home in the dark. We have attempted to place crews in their requested divisions as much as possible, however to make sure that every college has at least one boat per gender we have had to move a couple of boats down from the first to the second division, if this will be an issue then please let me know as there are other crews who would happily take the place. Due to being massively over subscribed, 42 mens and 40 womens crews, we have had to reject all third boats, and a couple of second boats. All entry fees for rejected boats will be refunded to you as soon as possible, please can you send an email to Natasha Branch (nb435 at cam.ac.uk) with the relevant payment details. Sorry for this change but it is out of our hands. Also senior row throughs will be organised on a first come first serve basis so please can you let me know when you want to come through as soon as possible. Many thanks, Callum Mantell Vice-Captain Emmanuel Boat Club Phone: 07881 581 606 Email: EBCVice at gmail.com Web: www.ebc.soc.srcf.net From: Callum Mantell Sent: ?Monday?, ?4? ?November? ?2013 ?22?:?39 To: contacts at lists.cucbc.org, captains at lists.cucbc.org Dear all, Captains please forward this on to LBCs: Emma Sprints 2013 is taking place on Sunday 24th November. Entries are now open until 20th November. The entry form is attached and all additional information is available here: http://ebc.soc.srcf.net/sprints/ Get keen as this is the first race of the Novice calendar and a great introduction to racing. Racing this year will be as last year, with every crew having at least two races. We anticipate a good turnout and with the standard fancy dress, doughnuts, and exciting racing, this event is not to be missed! Division winners will receive free tickets to Emma cocktails. I'll be uploading the draw on the website as soon as possible after the deadline, along with live results as the event unfolds. Standard safety rules apply: heel restraints in place, life jackets for coxes, and correctly fitted bow balls, and we reserve the right to turn away any crew we deem 'unsafe' with no refund of entry fee. Tickets are now on sale for Emma Cocktails that takes place on the evening of Sunday 24th. It's a great way for competitors to relax after a hard day of racing, and a good way for senior rowers to get to know (and hopefully celebrate the victories of) their novice crews. Unlimited alcohol and some funky jazz all for only ?9. Tickets can be purchased with race entries or via Natasha Branch (nb435 at cam.ac.uk). Send cheques made payable to *EMMANUEL BOAT CLUB* to Natasha Branch at Emmanuel college, stating your name, college and email on the back of the cheque, tickets will not be final until we receive the cheque. There is a limited number of tickets so get on this ASAP so catch them while you can!! If anyone would like any further information, or would like to organise a senior row through please contact me on EBCVice at gmail.com. Row throughs are limited as we will be quite tight on time and will be offered on a first come first serve basis.
