There are four open positions, all of which are open to **any** member of the College boat clubs. Involvement with the CUCBC committee is fun and rewarding and a good way of giving something back to College rowing in Cambridge, so if you are enthusiastic about college rowing and would like to get involved on the organisational side, please do consider applying for a position. While there are a number of defined jobs, responsibilities (particularly organising and umpiring the major races) tend to be shared between committee members who will work together throughout the year. If you wish to run for any of these positions, please send a brief manifesto outlining your experience and what you will bring to the position to Tom Grimble, CUCBC Honorary Secretary (tom at cucbc.org ), by Sunday 2nd June. I also strongly recommend getting involved in umpiring this year?s May Bumps (details of which will follow in the next few weeks). Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know more.**** ** *CUCBC Honorary Secretary* *This position will be elected at the pre-May Bumps Captains' Meeting (Sunday 9th June) by the College Captains. Candidates will give a brief speech to the Captains before they vote.* * * *Current: Tom Grimble (tom at cucbc.org)* The Honorary Secretary is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the CUCBC committee; organisation of CUCBC events (Uni IVs, Lents, SBR, Mays) and day-to-day administration of College rowing. This includes issuing fines and dealing with straight forward appeals, compiling agendas and minutes for the Captains' meetings, arranging marshalling rotas and organising the start of year LBCs' course. You will also be the Captains' main representative on the Executive Committee. The Honorary Secretary will generally take responsibility for organising one of the CUCBC events, while the others will be distributed between committee members. While there are a number of responsibilities, they are spread out over the year and completed with the help of the other committee members. This is a rewarding job for an energetic and enthusiastic person!**** ** *Junior Treasurer* *This position will be co-opted by the current Executive Committee.* * * *Current: Evelyn Tichy (juniortreasurer at cucbc.org)* The junior treasurer takes responsibility for the day-to-day running of CUCBC's finances, including drawing up and distributing bills to the College Boat Clubs and preparing the budget with the Senior Treasurer.**** ** *Events Secretary* *This position (1 or 2 persons, as deemed appropriate) will be co-opted by the current Executive Committee.* ** ** The events secretary helps with the organisation and running of CUCBC races. While overall responsibility for the CUCBC events will be divided between committee members (so you will not have to do everything!), the events secretary helps out with arranging umpires and organising and distributing umpiring kit. You will also liaise with the producers of the Bumps programmes and arrange the presentations and upkeep of the University medals and trophies. A fun job if you want to get involved with running races on the Cam!**** ** *Coxes' Representative* *This position will be elected at the May Bumps Coxes' Meetings (Sunday 9th June) by the coxes.* * * *Current: Mat Bryan (coxing at cucbc.org)* The coxes' rep aids the development of coxes within the College boat clubs, including arranging the novice coxes' meeting in Michaelmas term as well as giving the pre-Bumps coxes' briefings and any other ideas you may have!**** ** In addition to these positions, the CUCBC Committee also comprises the Honorary Secretaries of the three University clubs (CUBC, CUWBC, CULRC). Each of these clubs have their own election procedures which will be or have already been circulated by the current Honorary Secretaries.**** ** ** We look forward to hearing from you!**** Tom Grimble CUCBC Honorary Secretary -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you are a college crew training for the May Bumps then this is the perfect opportunity to practise those racing starts and size up the opposition. If you are a town rower, why not get a crew together and show them how it's done? This year we have a category for college alumni rowers too. The regatta is a plate competition, so those who lose their first heat get to row again against other crews in the same position for a 'second place' prize. Everyone gets to race at least twice (if not more) and all of your races should be compete in under 90 min. All winning crews will get glass tankards. The club with the most winning crews wins a bonus prize of a slab of beer! The bar at the Cambridge '99 RC boathouse will be open after racing for prizes, and burgers and a BBQ will also be on offer. More details and a poster are available on the Cambridge '99 RC website at nines.rowing.org.uk. Entries via email to regatta at nines.rowing.org.uk by Tuesday 14 May 2013. This will be the first of two days racing (Sunday is for juniors) to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation. There are invitation events for college eights (men and women) aimed at Oxbridge and you are encouraged to consider this fun but prestigious event which is on Saturday of 8th week. Please note the entry fee includes a competitor's medal, with the royal cipher, for all. Details can be found at: http://coronation-regatta.co.**uk/ Any men's boat which is entering Henley Royal Regatta should not enter this event as it ought to go to Marlow Regatta (see HRR guidance notes). This is a great opportunity to race side by side with other colleges. There are usual BR classification events you can also double up into if you wish. Umpiring is a great way to be involved in the most exciting races of the year and you get to be right at the centre of the action. The bumps simply would not happen without the help of umpires. If you've never umpired bumps before now is your chance, we only ask you have rowed or coxed in at least 2 sets of bumps before. There will be a briefing for all umpires on Sunday 9th June at 17:30 in Robinson College Umney Theatre, which will last about half an hour. If you would like to help please sign up at the link below. Signup to umpire HERE Please remember that you can both compete and umpire. As a rule I suggest you leave 2 divisions clear before your race and 1 after to allow you to get to and from the boathouses. The division times are available here . If you have any questions please do get in touch with me. As a thankyou to everyone who signs up to umpire during the week there will be a free dinner and drinks the week after the races. The cost will be ?2-50 per programme, a ?1 discount from those bought on the towpath or via sale-or-return to alumni societies which will be priced at ?3-50. Do consider placing an order for your club, as it would be good to secure a future for the programmes through this initiative and we will be reducing the number of p'lodges stocking programmes to encourage the uptake of bulk ordering. Please could you let me know how many programmes you would like by email by Wednesday 5th June. Payment should also be received by this date: cheques payable to Cambridge University Combined Boat Clubs to be sent to me at Robinson College. Programmes will be distributed to you at the Captains' Meeting on Sunday 9th June, providing they have been paid for. If you need a copy of your bill please do get in touch so that I can email you one. Please make cheques out to CUCBC and send them to Evelyn Tichy at Wolfson College. Bumps entry fees are ?40 per crew. Good luck for the last few weeks of training! Evelyn P.S. Please see below for notice of a closure of the A14 around Ditton during bumps. Those of you with alumni events on Friday/Saturday evening may find it useful to pass on details to those concerned. 2. A complaint has been received concerning the number of men's crews rowing topless. Although it is great to have a few sunny days, please can you ask men's crews not to roll lycra down. 3. Another reminder to keep noise prior to 7.30am to a minimum please. On a more cheery note, looking forward to receiving your bumps programme pre-orders! As ever, no form means no racing for your club. We understand that exams, illness etc. means that the same crew does not necessarily go out together all term, and so we ask that each member of the crew must have had at least 8 outings, and that the total number of outings by all 9 members of the crew be at least 90 (i.e. that on average, everyone has done 10 outings). If this is going to be a problem, or you wish to request exceptional permission for returning triallists etc., please let me know in advance of the deadline. It would greatly help with my keeping track of forms if you could include your club name in the return email.
