Dear all,
Following the complaints received concerning noise prior to the Lents,
I have received the following this morning. I am getting concerned
that there isn't going to be a happy ending here: at a meeting with
the City Council on the 22nd Feb, residents with complaints were
encouraged to contact the Council directly. This resident clearly has
detailed enough information to do so, and as there is a by-law against
amplified noise on the river, there may be little I can do to help
those named, or more widely, even morning rowing as a whole.
*Please be quiet: we risk losing earlies.*
Thanks,
Holly

Dear Holly,
A lovely quiet few days after bumps, but now some short memories, I'm afraid.
Queens ladies, 6.55am, amplified non-essential instructions.
Murray Edwards ladies, 6.53, amplified non-essential instructions.
Magdalen men, 6.59, cox just chatting and joking with the crew, amplified.
Queens ladies going upstream, returning(?) 7.10: Amplified, constant
instructions.
Caius women 7.10, amplified.
Queens men, going upstream, 7.11: amplified.
Very loud shouting and music from Goldie boathouse, 7.15.
We want to be able to solve these problems without a lot of hassle,
but, as we've said to Dick Pryce Jones in the past with regard to
Goldie, we and others (both on boats and in houses) feel this is an
important issue and one we will pursue further if the clubs themselves
can't find a solution.
We appreciate all your help so far - there was a marked improvement
before bumps, and some clubs are perfectly behaved. St John's ladies,
for example, went by in absolute silence. I wouldn't even have known
their blades were going into the water if I'd not been looking out!
Yours,
