Message-ID: <4E86D6A5.9060105@cucbc.org> Dear all, As a result of failing to provide up to date insurance information, the following clubs are no longer permitted to boat (which includes the Small Boats Head today, if anyone is entered): Churchill Clare Hall Darwin LMBC Selwyn St Edmunds Vet School These clubs will remain unable to boat until up to date insurance information is provided. Please note that I will not be sat at my desk refreshing the CUCBC website every ten minutes, so you would be well-advised to email me at the same time if you wish to be permitted to boat soon. I'm the manager and senior instructor for Juice Pilates, Cambridge's Pilates center. Last year several Cambridge boat clubs had great success using Juice Pilates for an intense core training regimen. We are in the process of setting up our Michaelmas class schedule and I wanted to see if any other boat clubs would be interested in adding Pilates training into your fitness programmes this term. In my past teaching with boat clubs I've taught yoga classes as well as core training classes using the "Reformer," the Pilates machine that we use at Juice. We can create a tailored programme that would address the specific needs of your boats, drawing upon yoga, Pilates, and circuits for cardiovascular training. There are 6 machines at Juice, but depending on the type of class you would prefer we could accomodate more rowers. We are open to several different ways of running the classes. In the past one boat club would have their own early monrning hour-long session, one to five times a week. We could also have a drop-in session that is open to any boat clubs. The cost for these classes will be ?7/rower (the normal cost of classes is ?12). As of now we have Monday, Wednesday, and Friday early mornings available. Please let me know if you have any interest - I would also be happy to offer a complimentary class so that you could come see what the workout is like! If your college has not already provided an umpire/marshal, then you are required to source one from within the ranks, asap. I will leave choice of slot open for now, but will restrict this as time passes. As it stands, I need a minimum of one extra marshal each day except for Wednesday, when I require two. Note the minimum in that sentence. At the end of the week, any college not having provided a marshal will be fined. The Regatta will be held from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th November. All the information about the Regatta, including the full rules and the online entry system, can be found at *http://www.clareboatclub.org.uk/cnr. *Please take the time to read through the rules. The Regatta is the usual format of side-by-side racing over an 800m course. There are four events: Men's Cup, Women's Cup, Men's Plate, Women's Plate. The top crew of each sex should be entered into the Cup and other crews into the Plate, unless you are entering 4 or more boats of one sex. In this case, the top 2 crews enter the Cup. The defining feature of the Regatta is that* no rower may have rowed or sculled in a race before 1st September 2011 and no cox may have steered a race before the same date.* Please see the website for full details and email me with any problems. To enter crews, please visit the Online Entry page of the Regatta website. The first individual to log in via Raven for each college will be able to enter crews and grant another CRSid the ability to do the same. Entries are ?46 per crew and close at *midnight ending Sunday 13th November*. Entries submitted after this time may be refused and will be subject to an increased fee of ?55. If you have any problems with the system, please contact me at this email address. Payment is preferably made by direct transfer (account details available on the website) but cheques are also acceptable. Please make them out to *"Clare Novices' Regatta"* and deliver them to Clare Boat Club, Clare College Old Court by the entry deadline. There will be a meeting for coaches and coxes on *Sunday 20th November at 21:15 in the Great Hall, Clare College Old Court*, the Sunday before the Regatta. Safety and marshaling procedures will be explained and the draw and order of racing will be distributed. *All competing coxes must attend*, together with a senior representative from their college (such as a Lower Boats Captain). If you have any problems or questions please email me at this address, claregatta at gmail.com. When there is a stationary queue of boats in the morning waiting to get back to the boat houses, please do not attempt to jump the queue. Chances are the queue is there because there is nowhere for the boats to go, so jumping the queue isn't really going to help and we all have lectures/labs/etc. to get back to. If too many people try this and potentially meet crews coming the other way, it could lead to a nasty accident. Honourable mentions this week go to First and Third, Magdalene, Darwin, Wolfson and Trinity Hall. Also, you should not be overtaking on corners at any time (including the slight corner under the Railway Bridge) as you cannot see what is coming the other way. If such dangerous behaviour continues, fines will be imposed on the offending crews. In short, don't do it.
