Dear Captains
WIELS DISEASE - death of Andy Holmes
ANDY HOLMES was Redgrave's Pairs partner in the early years.
His sudden death from Wiels Disease is a stark warning to all our oarsmen of
the dangers of this waterborne disease, which infects us on the Cam also.
Please advise all your Members and make sure that you have a Warning Notice
up in your Boathouse.
Further more crews should ensure that they wash their hands immediately
after outings and keep water bottles sealed in plastic bags in the boat -
not open to water that gathers in the bottom of the boat during outings. I
would also ask you to discourage the practice of throwing crew members into
the Cam after races, be it this term or more likely after the Bumps.
Meantime, please note the symptoms and act quickly.
