Dear all

I am sorry to be passing this on by e-mail, but I have just learnt the extremely sad news that Ian Thompson died yesterday. 

Our sympathies are with his wife, Anne, and those close to him. In due course I will pass on details of funeral arrangements, and have been asked to say that this will be a small and family event.

As we all know, Ian has been central to the Cambridge rowing community, and I cannot even start to express my feelings at this loss. Please can I ask those responsible for clubs and other bodies to pass on this sad news to their members.
