Message-ID: Dear All, Last year CUBC began a partnership with the sports nutrition company 'Science in Sport'. As well as providing products to the CUBC, they also supply other major teams including GB rowing, Astana and Team Saxo Bank. We have found their range of products particularly useful for the nutritional demands of rowing. Their experience with cycling nutrition translates well to rowing, which is why both CUBC and the GB team chose SIS. I have attached a document detailing our relationship with SIS and listing the products avaliable. More information can be gained from their website ( www.scienceinsport.com) and also by emailing Peter Slijhukis ( pjs at scienceinsport.com). It is likely that later in the year, Peter will give a talk on nutrition (he holds and MSc and is studying for an IOC diploma in sports nutrition) and will be able to answer any questions you might have whether they are rowing-specific or more general. I would appreciate it if you could forward this email to your club members. Yours, Giles -- CUBC Honorary Secretary -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Anyone cycling with a crew needs to pay attention to where they are going for the safety of both yourself and members of the public. If a pedestrian (or another cyclist) is forced to jump onto the road to avoid a collision with you, then it puts that person at a risk of being hit by an oncoming vehicle. Please also note that cycling on certain parts of a footpath that are not marked as cycling routes is actually illegal. If you are on a joint cycling and pedestrian route, then you still need to be aware of where you are going and of others around you, and not just looking at the crew you are following. These can be accessed by visiting http://www.cucbc.org/regatta and going to University Fours 2009. The crew that you arrive with on your first day of racing is defined to be your crew (no matter what you entered online). If this crew changes at *ANY POINT* after your first race, then you need to notify the Executive Committee at committee at cucbc.org. Any crew changes bust me eligible, particularly with regards to rule 56c which states that any crew with more than 1 mays colour (rowed first boat in May Bumps) must be entered in the first division. Please also let us know of any scratches ASAP. It is absolutely critical that you marshal at the time indicated. If you arrive even slightly late you will set back the entire competition, and you may be disqualified. There are a lot of races to fit into 14:00-16:00, so arriving even a few minutes late sets us back quite a lot. Please also pay attention to where you have to marshal, as you don't want to get in the way of racing crews. Umpires are also necessary to carry out these races. The more umpires your college provides, the fewer marshals it will have to provide. Umpiring is like marshalling, only you get to say when you are free! It's a great way to watch some great races, or even check out your competition. Now that the timetable has been published, everyone should know when they are free. Please send your availability to me, cuwbc at cucbc.org, and I will add you to the current list of umpires. Make sure to include which college you are from, and your mobile number as well. The meeting will be held at 7.30pm sharp in the Lubbock Room, Peterhouse. I will be running through some important safety information that CUCBC are obliged to hand out to all the coxes, as well as giving some (hopefully) helpful advice on coxing and coxing development that should be of interest to all. I will also be around afterwards to answer any questions. Representatives from the the Cam Conservators and the houseboat community of the Cam will also be giving brief presentations. As you know, it is vitally important for our continued use of the river that we respect the other river users, and this part of the presentation should give us all some indication as to how we can avoid further restrictions of how we use our river. I realise this is reasonably short notice, but it is important if some coxes are unable to attend due to genuinely pressing engagements, that representatives from their respective clubs are in attendance to relay the salient points. A quick roll call will be taken. The Porters at Peterhouse should be able to give directions to the Lubbock room, but just in case directions are below: 1. Go through the main gate at Peterhouse and into the first court. 2. At the far side of the court there is an archway, head through this into the second court. 3. Continue straight on into the top right hand side of the court, and then follow round to the right. 4. In front should be a door leading through to the library, head through here and then turn left for the Lubbock room. Look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday. This message has been repeated several times already at captains meetings / Pete's email on Friday - please take it on. This morning some local residents were quite annoyed about the noise - we've got to avoid any cause for people to make complaints. Fines (?20 - ?50) will be issued if any specific crews (including bank parties) are seen being noisy. Julian --- The handbook states: 32. All crews must ensure that they do not create unnecessary noise anywhere on the river before 7.30am. 33. In particular, loud hailers may not be used anywhere on the towpath, and the use of cox-boxes, and coaching from the bank should be kept to a minimum before 7.30am. Coaching from the bank above the railway bridge is not permitted at all before this time. CUCBC may stop coaches from accompanying crews from the boathouses to the Penny Ferry for breaching this rule. 34. a. That the rules of the river, and especially Rules 32 and 33 will be enforced by a system of early morning marshals. The system shall operated by the Executive Committee and the College Boat Clubs will be required to provide marshals according to a rota. Crews violating Rules 32 and 33 will be fined and may be banned from the river. Guidelines for early morning marshals can be found in Appendix B. b. That the marshals shall also enforce the early morning traffic restrictions described in Rule 8. The rules and organisation for 2009 has changed only slightly: the new rules document is available on our website at http://www.clareboatclub.org.uk/cnr I draw your attention to the following: 1) This year, the entry fee for CNR has been raised to ?45 per crew 2) A new rule makes crews causing undue disturbance on saturday morning liable to disqualification. 3) Entries this year are by the ONLINE SYSTEM ONLY - entries will open on 1st November, and close on the 14th November. Each captain will receive an individual email with their club's password for this year shortly. If you have any problems please don't hesitate to contact me, by email or mobile phone (07970757665). Finally, a couple of things to note: 1)The timetable for racing currently on Clare Boat Club website is still provisional. It is possible division times may change, especially on Saturday. This will be announced both online and in the coxes' meeting. 2) Based on the number of entries from last year, there is a danger the regatta will be heavily oversubscribed this year. Allocations will be made in as fair a way as possible, and to a large extent will be first come first served; though every attempt will be made to ensure that no college is completely left out of CNR if they wish to participate. Please remember your entry is not accepted until you have sent payment. I'm really looking forward to seeing all your novices out on the water!
