From ncc25 at hermes.cam.ac.uk Mon Jul 7 16:10:22 2008 From: ncc25 at hermes.cam.ac.uk (Nicholas Cutler) Date: Mon, 7 Jul 2008 17:10:22 +0100 (BST) Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Novice coaching Message-ID: To whom it may concern, Having previously written to CUCBC, and been advised by Peter Convey to repeat my request here, I am writing to enquire about the possibility of helping to coach novices within your club from next academic year. Overall, I have been involved in the sport for approximately fifteen years, having been awarded half-colours by my university club, later coaching novice crews while a postgraduate and subsequently on the Cam. During this time, the major part of my own personal experience has been as a single sculler training currentlywith Rob Roy BC. I am making this enquiry having reached the point in my own training where I feel that I wish to make a contribution to the sport which I have myself enjoyed. Having previously had some experience of coaching, I have found working with novices both important and personally rewarding, and therefore believe that I could make a real contribution. Similarly, as a member of staff within the University it seems natural that I should offer to help one of the colleges where I could offer some continuity in a club which may otherwise be dependent on the skills of undergraduates. If you feel that this would be a possibility, then I would be pleased to further discuss this with you. Similarly, of course, I understand that any coaching I did would be on a voluntary basis. In the hope that you can give some consideration to my request, I remain, Yours sincerely, Mr. Nicholas Cutler From clarehall.men at cucbc.org Tue Jul 8 00:54:50 2008 From: clarehall.men at cucbc.org (Thomson Nguyen) Date: Tue, 08 Jul 2008 01:54:50 +0100 Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Trailer Hire Message-ID: <4872BADA.80804@cucbc.org> Hello, My college wants to have a boat naming ceremony on its own lawns this Wednesday, and I'm pretty much at a complete loss at why the ceremony has to be at my college rather than the boathouse, but anyway, I'm now at their mercy and so I'm seeking out any clubs who would be generous enough to let us borrow a trailer and/or a car with a hitch for half a day. Name your price - any assistance you may provide us would be greatly appreciated. Please note the request for responses to the earlier questionaires sent round - it's disappointing to learn that virtually all clubs have failed to respond. The position is very much intended to benefit coaching development in clubs, but it goes without saying that it requires the clubs to engage - please do so! Outgoing captains: Please leave this message in your Webmail Inbox for your successor (and mark it as unread). You should pass on the username and password for both your e-mail and website accounts to your successor. Your CUCBC Accounts Each College captain is issued with two CUCBC accounts, one for the e-mail system and one for the website. The usernames for both systems will be identical and will be of the form: [college].men Men's captain [college].women Women's captain [college].captain Overall captain, if your club has one (who is not also the men's or women's captain) E-mail Each of these accounts has an associated @cucbc.org e-mail address which is subscribed to the Captain's list. You should check your CUCBC e-mail account regularly as it will be used to communicate important information from CUCBC as well as any fines your club may have incurred. In addition to these addresses, each club has a [college]@cucbc.org address which will redirect to all of these. You can log in to your e-mail account via the Webmail interface at http://webmail.cucbc.org. Incoming captains should change their password the first time they log in. This can be done by following the Settings link (top right) then going to Accounts. Use the Change Password link at the bottom of the page. If you wish, you can set up your CUCBC e-mail account with your own mail client (e.g. Outlook), or you can have your CUCBC mail automatically forwarded to another (e.g. Hermes) account. Both of these functions can be performed via the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab on the Settings page. Incoming captains should check the system is not still forwarding to their predecessor. By default, mail sent from the Webmail interface will have the From name/address set as [college] [Men/Women/Captain] e.g. "Jesus Men". If you wish you can change this to your own name. Go to the Accounts tab of the Settings page, and click "Edit Info" near "Send Mail As" at the top of the page. Incoming captains should check this is not still set to their predecessors name. Website You will be required to log in to the website (http://www.cucbc.org) to, amongst other things, update your club information and enter crews for CUCBC events (including Bumps). The CUCBC Website also contains a lot of important information including the Rules of the River, lighting times and the current flag status. If you do not have your website password but you have access to your CUCBC e-mail account, you may use the "Request New Password" link on the login form to have a new password e-mailed to you. Incoming captains should change their password the first time they log in. To do this, after logging in, go to My Account (left, under your username), then to the Edit tab. Incoming captains: please update your club's information in our database. To do this, select Club Information (under your username on the left) then select "View Info" for your club. Click the Edit tab to update the information (you will only be able to edit your own club!) If you have any queries (relating to the website/e-mail system etc.) or are missing passwords for your club, please get in touch with the CUCBC Web Team (webmaster at cucbc.org). -- Dan Wilkins (Jesus College) CUCBC Web Team 2008-9 dan at cucbc.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The addition of the ".lists" part of the address is for various technical and spam avoidance reasons. The new addresses are already operational so please send any mail to the new addresses: boatmen at lists.cucbc.org captains at lists.cucbc.org contacts at lists.cucbc.org coxes at lists.cucbc.org etc The Exec Committee can still be contacted at committee at cucbc.org although committee at lists.cucbc.org will also work. The mailing list pages on the website will be updated with the new information when the change occurs. CUCBC WEBSITE DOWNTIME In about a months time the CUCBC.org website will be taken offline for about a week. This is so various software upgrades can be carried out during the first week of September. The site will be back up and running in plenty of time for the start of term. The CUCBC email and mailing list systems should function normally during this time except for a few instances where mail may be held up due to system reboots. We have scheduled this work to be during the vacation and well before the start of term to keep disruption to a minimum but please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused while this work is undertaken.
