From cuwbc at cucbc.org Tue Dec 2 12:40:02 2008 From: cuwbc at cucbc.org (Thomas Walton) Date: Tue, 2 Dec 2008 12:40:02 +0000 Subject: [CUCBC Captains] Early Morning Marshals Message-ID: <641beeae0812020440y3c042114p30d000e4c112efc9@mail.gmail.com> Dear Captains, I am very disappointed to note the extremely low number of Early Morning Marshals that have turned up for duty in recent days. Only one marshal has completed a report this week out of four that should have been on duty, and several last week did not turn up either. I know it's the end of term but it's a stupid way to waste ?25 - you will be fined if your marshal doesn't turn up. We expect all six marshals for the rest of term to be in position at lighting down, even on the days of Fairbairns - there is still a job to do in terms of noise monitoring. I would be grateful if you could tell me if you have any outstanding novices who will be continuing to row next term, ideally giving their Fairbairns boat and seat. At this stage I am particularly looking for those that are big and keen. Also, I am hoping to run an erg based development squad next term. This won't interfere with college training at all but will act to accelerate the progress of keen rowers. I will keep you updated on the details of this. I look forward to hearing from you. Please, as ever, be aware of other river users if you do use this period, and in particular note that City clubs use Sundays for training novice junior scullers on occasion. Please also note that this allowance is not for the use of College clubs holding pre-term training camps in Cambridge. The dog had been let off its leash by the owner (male, wearing a dark top and green wellies) in the vicinity of the bridge; he seemed to be aware of its potential for attacking people since he shouted ?he?ll have you? at a runner who was on the towpath at the same time. The dog chose to make a bee-line for the cyclist instead. This incident was reported to the Police (incident no. 0336/2 Dec). If the same dog is seen in the area, please could you contact Cambs Police at their non-emergency number (0845 456 456 4) to report the sighting. Thank you for your attention and assistance. Please contact Chris Hesketh (CCed) if you are interested or if you have any questions. Regards, Thomas CUCBC Secretary Dear Fellow Rower, *Alumni Regatta - Sunday 27 September 2009* In 2009 the University will celebrate its 800th anniversary. Some of you will know I ran a regatta in previous years, but a falling number of entries did not make this viable to continue and the regattas stopped. I have had exploratory interest from a number of contacts and consequently I am writing to you to see if there are a sufficient number of alumni of your college, who would have an interest in participating in a regatta as part of the 800th anniversary activities. The format would be as before with two crews racing side by side from the Plough Pub end of the Long Reach upriver for about 1000/1200 metres finishing after going under the railway bridge. The winner of a race would go forward to the next round. Depending on the number of crews, the regatta would start around 9.30am/10am and aim to finish before lunch. Again depending on numbers, there may be repechage races. Those interested would arrange to use their college boats, which covers insurance; the aim is to have VIIIs racing side by side, but we have had IVs in the past. As a first step I would be grateful if this message could be circulated to your alumni rowers / rowing club so I can gauge the level of interest. I would be the contact in the Development Office, if people want to contact me direct with queries or whatever. Yours sincerely Chris -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Pete, a triathlete came on Friday to talk to the CUBC squad about nutrition and hand out some freebies. The talk was excellent and pretty rowing specific. Josh West and Tom James will hopefully be around to talk about how they went from Cambridge student to being an owner of a shiny Olympic medal. I've asked Hawks if we can open it up to all the rowing captains and potentially the club members depedning on numbers. Apart from the talks SiS will offer a discounted account to any rowing clubs the thhink are of a suitable standard. Karla CUBC Hon Sec Dear All, CUBC are going to use SiS products for The Boat Race period. They supply most of the premiership football clubs, the top cycling teams and loads of other athletes. They are interested in supplying suitably professional and serious university sports teams with discounted products in addition to CUBC. We'd like to invite sports captains to the lounge at the Hawks club on 23 January at 19:00 for SiS to come and talk about nutrition and talk about the products they can offer. In addition SiS would offer 25% discount to any clubs who are interested and who they approve of.
